201er Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 Strange thing happened on my flight from NJ to FL today. One moment it was bright and sunny and the next it went dark and I had to put my panel lights on! 7.5 hours nonstop to Lakeland. Almost 1000nm. Took it slow and only burned 65 gallons. No fuel stop. A bit of weather dodging. Fun fun. If you think flying 7.5 nonstop through an eclipse on 65 gallons makes us MOONiacs, then please vote for our photo: http://lasar.com/contest/?contest=photo-detail&photo_id=1863 15 1 Quote

201er Posted August 25, 2017 Author Report Posted August 25, 2017 Just got my video together. We flew nonstop from NJ to FL and saw the solar eclipse on the way in SC. The video includes some time lapse footage of how it went dark! 5 Quote
bradp Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 Mike how much traffic did you encounter along your route? Quote

Typical amount enroute but it was pretty hectic near the zone of totality. ATC dropped me even though I was enroute passing through. Atlanta was the one that didn't want to spend their time on advisories. Because of high clouds, ADSB showed everyone hanging out around 10500ft so I climbed up to 12500 and stayed over most of the traffic. Didn't see any but ADSB showed maybe 20 airplanes in a 20 mile area going in random directions. Quote
