Hi All,

Attached is the best mounting for portable electronic toys I could come up with.  496 mounted on center post, ipad on copilot yoke and handheld transciever on pilot yoke.  Any suggestions other than trash the panel mounted stuff.

Happy New Year

I had a Ram Yolk Mount for the iPad "mounted" on the pilot yoke. Unfortunately, when checking "controls free and correct", I accidently hit the Gear switch (Mooney 20R 2007) with the yolk mount causing the switch to get "stuck". I had to replace the Gear switch mechanism.

If I had thought things out more carefully, I would have set it up on the co-pilot's side, as you did!

Happy New Year and congrats on your setup!

I really like the 496 mounted on the center post in your aircraft.  My 496 is mounted in a Gizmo mount in the radio stack panel area that takes up too much valuable room for other radios.  My problem is that my compass seems to be mounted lower on the center post than yours and there is no room between it and the glare shield.  Did you have to relocate you compass to make this layout work?  Does anyone know if moving a compass higher on the center post is even an an option?  I believe it would involve drilling some new holes in the center post.  Any input on this would be appreciated.

Nope, not on mine anyway (I have a wet compass).  I also have a little more space between mine and the compass though.  I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them later tomorrow night.

I love the new location compared to the yoke mount I had up until yesterday when I received the mount from Hendricks Manufacturing.  Took all of 15 minutes to install.

I also have my G296 mounted on the center post and it works very, very well. No wires or leads all over the place and it's not blocking my view to any part of the panel. Mine couldn't fit in beneath the compass, so I had my AME move the compass higher up on the post. At this new position, it is far enough from the GPS not to cause any interference.

The 496 mount is from Hendricks.  It did not require compass move and does not cause compass problems.  The Hendricks mount is better made and fits tighter that others.  The ipad is in a Ram mount canted so i can see it and my pilot wife can also see it.  Sunlight is a problem at some sun angles.  We are working on that.

Yes, crash problems, flight controll movements and instrument view obstructions must all be checked.  In my arrangement we checked yoke/seat occupant clearance with the seats at the full forward positon (not our usual position).  The fixed shoulder harnesses prevented impact.  The transciever on the pilot yoke is usually not there. Perhaps, when my ship (plane) comes in I will replace the RNav with a 430w, restack the panel and mount the ipad right of the tach.
