TKS-equipped Mooney Maintenance Check

Appreciate the heads-up post.  For those with FiKi designations/STCs on such aircraft, there are multiple pumps onboard.  Please can you expound on these services - including tasks involved, costs, turnaround times, etc. for those considering such work in the near future?

Got into some ice today on descent and after landing the engine cowl was smoking with tks fluid all over the engine. The prop had some ice.

The fluid is not flowing into the slinger ring.

In September I found the "J" shaped tube that's supposed to squirt TKS fluid into the prop slinger ring had rotated 180 degrees on my M20R.  It was hosing down the prop hub.  The techs turned it back around, tightened it properly & it is working normally.  

The prop deice line passes through the firewall in front of the pilot's feet, runs over the left top of engine and to the slinger.  There are about 4 connections from firewall to prop.  You can see it all with just the top cowl half removed.

Or should it be "backed off" with a space between ?

It should be aimed up and end just short of the slinger V shaped ring.

Correct.  I've had to replace two of these over the life of the aircraft so far...one that was part of my old MacCauley prop slinger ring kit, and another with a different model of feed tube that goes with the Hartzell kit.  If anyone needs help with this, happy to work with you over the phone.

Mine was safely wired neatly but the fitting was loose, probably incorrectly torqued during engine reinstallation. That allowed the "J" pipe to rotate.

Thanks for posting these, very valuable for the file.

It would appear the the recently replaced nozzle on my non-FIKI K was not aimed correctly...

Also, the nozzle can get into an harmonic vibration and break. This happened to mine, the fix is a little bit of prc at the base of the nozzle, I noticed you don't have it done. CAV sent me the instructions on how to do it. It's a known issue.

Thanks. I recall recently reading this comment about the vibration issue. I am going in for an annual at the end of January and will get it sorted. Any chance you can share the instructions?

Another potential hazard to the nozzle is the tether connecting cowl plugs.  It can pass into the gap behind the spinner, and if you're not careful, you can find yourself yanking on the nozzle.  I'm always careful to route the tether in front of the blades.

While to cowl was off for another reason, we found that my 'j-shaped' nozzle was broken.  My mechanic ordered a new one, but it doesn't seem to be the same part.  Does anyone have the correct part number for the nozzle?  I'd really like to have a new one installed before Friday.

I'll attach pictures of my old one and the new one that was sent.   I'll also add the vibration damper on the new one.
