The  wife just got pregnant and we are looking at taking a four day weekend in early October . With Zika all over the south seems like that would be a bad idea so I am looking off to the north . We would like it to be within about 4.5-5 hours from KLBL in the 231 . Any ideas . Not California please .

Gary,

Starting in Liberal, KS and drinking alone..?

Do you like music?  Memphis has the blues or Nashville has that country sound...

Good luck with your plans.

Best regards,

Drinking not so much anymore , Nashville I will look at . I am sure a DR will chime in and say don't  worry about the Zika virus , but we are worried about it lol that's why I was thinking north .

Co is great in October. I suggest telluride or Steamboat Springs, both easy airports. For more of a luxury experience the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is very nice, you can go do the royal gorge train or whatever else floats your boat. I like Glenwood springs but that's a much more challenging airport, but it puts you near hanging lakes and some other stuff to see.

You're also in range of Jackson WY, most of Montana, so many options, Sedona AZ also, or sw Colorado like cortez if you want to see Mesa verde

The Broadmoor is very nice, we stayed there a couple of years ago. You are a short drive from the Garden of the Gods and can take the Cogwheel Train up Pikes Peak. Oh, and take a tour of the Air Force Academy, time it so that you are there before lunch so that you can watch the cadets line up for noon meal formation and march off, very cool to see.

Well usually we hike and try to do the outdoors . But I am very reluctant to let her push to hard . I think they consider her high risk because we did invetro. So really just looking for a good hotel and nice scenery and just relax . Thanks for all the ideas I will check them out .

San Antonio has some interesting things nearby.

The Mooney factory isn't far from there.  Ask for a tour...  They have a sale on AC and FIKI...

My favorite used machine shop is pretty close by as well.  Discuss trading the old bird on a new for you bird...

We may know a few people if you need a hand with these.

Broadmoor is all of that for sure. They have nice places to eat, a good Sunday brunch, and a bowling alley...

The problom with San Antonio is from my reaserch they are having a bunch of Zika infections down there so it's out . I know them boys from Allamericanaircraft it where I bought my plane . If it was not for Zika I would be all over a factory tour . As for a new bird with FIKA and AC way out of my price range unfortunately .

I am leaning towards the broadmoor amd the train ride up pikes peak

I second the Broadmore.  Excellent resort.

Zika is a real problem.  I've been invited to a NASA rocket launch in Cape Canaveral and I'm considering skipping it due to the dangers of Zika and pregnancy.  We are working on #2 and though I've always wanted to attend a launch with VIP status, it may not be worth it risk wise.

Seth,

you're going to need a stand-in.  You can't just cancel.  It will go on your record.  You may not get invited back.

I know a couple of guys in the NJMP that can give you a hand.  We can select from a premier group that can't be susceptible to the effects of Zika.  (Carusoam and Marauder would be perfect for the job)

That's my best attempt at humor today. :)

The ride up to Pike's Peak is incredible. With the cogwheel it goes up and down very steep grades.

Wow, dude I get the Zika concern but an invitation to experience a launch is an awesome opportunity. I just left a conference where there were at least 4 expecting mothers and I don't think Zika was on anyone's mind.  The chance of your wife contracting Zika in Florida is much less than getting struck by lightning in Florida or for that matter getting run over by an idiot that is texting while driving.  Oh and the beaches are still here to enjoy. No rise in sea level due to global warming that I have seen as of yet.

Jackson, WY would be my choice. Jackson Airport is pricey so Driggs. Id. is a good alternate.  Rent a car and stay over there or drive to Jackson.  West Yellowstone is also a great place but be advised the airport has no snow plowing and I have friends who got stuck there until the snow clears.  Have a good time.

The royal gorge train is neat too, if you get a dome car and lunch it's kind of fun. I have done both and rate them about equally. The scenery is better on the cog, but the gorge has good food. You've also got cave of the winds and as mentioned garden of the gods. It's a nice little trip!

driggs is easier to get into also I'd imagine, not that JAC is difficult in a 231.

KWYS isn't a bad suggestion, and the park is probably empty this time of year. There is less in WYS and town rolls up for winter, food is a little limited.

If you feel like flying further go to kalispell KGPI and see glacier!

Funny story, the Broadmoor is very nice... My wife and I were there for I think it was four nights courtesy of a vendor. Around the third day we had a rental car which was when we drove over and did the Cog Railway. On the way back (because I'm cheap) we stopped by the 7-11 and I got a Big Gulp and we bought some chips and snacks. We pulled up to the front and got out with the Big Gulp and a couple bags from 7-11 and the valet asked "Will you be staying long?" (I assume he figured we weren't actual guests of the hotel) I said "Yes, we're here for a couple more nights." He just looked at me and said "Okay..."
