thomas1142 Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 Does anyone know of this J, it's for sale on Controller? http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1418221/1983-mooney-m20j-201
KSMooniac Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 Looks nice, but I'd want to learn about the recent damage that was repaired. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
CaptainAB Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 Anytime I see an N number that ends in Echo Romeo I immediately think it must have been a trainer for Embry Riddle (not that there is anything wrong with that) However the times are low and Mooney didn't make the Trainer model until later so it's probably coincidence. 1
gsengle Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I'd miss the turn coordinator Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rbridges Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 check the history close. I hate to spread false information, and I'm not sure that I'm right about its location, but any time I see a plane for sale in Tennessee, I wonder if it's a salvage.
AaronDC8402 Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I looked at this plane in person pretty early on in our J search. It checked a lot of boxes for us. We didn't test fly it, but we looked it over pretty well on the ground. The paint is fresh, but has a couple of imperfections at rivets and seams. The interior is simple, but nice and relatively new. I had mixed feelings about the vinyl wrapped interior panels. When we looked at it, it was listed at $120k. It was a little over our budget of $100k. Ultimately, we had a little trouble spending over our budget for a plane with that much time on the engine. I did like that the owner has oil analysis done every oil change, and had good reports from that. The paint scheme looks nice, but we also don't really like red. That pushed us to keep looking. At $110k, you're getting a lot of avionics in a nice plane. No reason not to expect hundreds more hours on the engine too. 1

Maybe you're thinking of an outfit in Johnson City TN with a questionable history? This plane is near Nashville, where I grew up - really far away from Johnson City, which is near the NC boarder. 1

prflyer Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 I think I remember reading about the outfit near Johnson City previously, but I can't remember the name. Can someone point me to the thread where this was previously discussed? My search has not turned it up. Thanks. Fernando
Ftlausa Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 I would take a close look at the PowerFlow exhaust. The pictures shows that it is very dark almost to the tip. Mine does not look anything like that. I'm not a mechanic, but that would make me suspicious regarding the engine operation history. 1
Bennett Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 It is my understanding that PowerFlow exhaust systems come with two tailpipe options. I have the "chrome" like coating that stays sort of shiny. I believe this was at extra cost. 1
