Reattaching the flywheel and spinner dome on the m20j.  There is an "O" on the flywheel and crankshaft flange to line up, but I can't see the mark on the flange.  I do see a 40 stamp on the edge of the flange, and it appears that that bushing is "stepped" at the point.  Is that the O?  Is there another way to find the O bushing?

I thought the "O" was stamped on the face of the fly wheel and face of the crank flange.  If in doubt, couldn't  you find TDC on compression for #1 cylinder and then verify the fly wheel is indexed correctly by looking at the timing marks on the fly wheel versus the dot on the starter or split line in the case?  If indexed correctly the timing marks on the fly wheel should correspond correctly with the reference marks on the engine.

The "O" on the starter ring gear support is meant to line up with the oversized crankshaft bushing.

That works provided the last guy put it on correctly.  I've seen one where the was put on wrong and the hole was punched larger by the oversized bushing.
