*SOLD* Mooney Missile that needs some TLC - For a Steal

UPDATE - *SOLD*

I have been made aware of a Mooney Missile (NOT MINE) that may be coming to market soon.

It will need everything firewall forward overhauled in the next few years if not the first year of ownership, however, it is priced accordingly - well below market value (M20E/M20F territory).

It's an early 1980s M20J Missile 300 with original interior, paint, and mainly original panel - which is a good Panel - King stack with AP/HSI etc . . . I did see an engine monitor (if you were to install a new WAAS GPS and Transponder combo, like a 650 and GTX-345 would get you ADSB and displays in panel.  Dollars wise, King has a great trade in program for King product, thus you could get a King WASS GPS and Transponder as well, less functionality however ADSB wise).

PM me with your email and I'll email you the information I have.

Once you do EVERYTHING needed to this airplane, a Mooney Missile that is currently airworthy and flying, just tired, including new paint and interior, which you don't need, but is a nice to have, you'll have a fully customized Mooney Missile with an entirely overhauled firewall forward for $15k to $20k less than one in that condition would go for on the market.  The Engine/prop/everything firewall forward is at the end of it's first run from the Missile conversion in the late 1990s.   You can also choose to do this in steps over a few years and save the paint and interior for a few years down the road.  The extended range Monroy tanks were resealed by Paul Beck prior to the current individuals ownership.

If you are an A&P, or can do a lot of the work yourself, you'll come out even more ahead.

If you have ever thought of upgrading, now may be a time to get yourself a Mooney Missile for a steal.

PM me - I have no financial interest in this bird - simply passing on good information to the best place I can think of for Mooney Lovers.  And I really like my Mooney Missile!

-Seth

UPDATE as of 4/12/16 -  A purchase agreement has been placed on the Missile in questions and it will undergo a prebuy inspection.  I am not aware of the price but will post if it has been sold or if it's available again after I get word.

PM sent.

Again, M20E/M20F pricing.

Seth, I have seen M20Es for as low as 25K and F's as high as 110K...Can you narrow it down to a within a few AMU's?

Owner was thinking about asking $55k knowing it's a runout with no WAAS GPS.

$45k-$50k may take it.

Maybe even low $40s.

FF overhauls of everything will run $40k - $45k.

Then a WAAS GPS and ADSB decision

The P & I if you wish, and they are fine now, but if you want to customize them you can.

When all is said and done this will be an even better deal than my Missile as I did the FF forward but but less panel and no P&I.  The purchase price is what makes this deal.

No fooling around, it's airworthy but a long term project.

I would purchase.  Fly it.  Arrange for the firewall forward overhaul at the 1 year mark or less.  Then I'd put in the WASS GPS and ADSB info the next year.  It has a KLN 90 now so it's at least a GPS in panel.

Year 3 I'd do the interior.  Year 4 I'd paint it.

Or cash permitting, do it all at once.

Unfortunately Seth, by the time you are done, you'll have $130k into a $100k plane.

$115 into a $130+ plane.  O smoh Missiles with new paint & interior and panel go for $125-$135.  Take out the panel or P&I and you are in for less.  If you are an A&P or can do some of the labor work yourself, even less.

Mid time Missiles are trading for $110-115.

This wouldn't be a to sell for profit project unless you do a lot of the labor yourself.  But if you are about to drop $40-60k in upgrades to your M20C, E, G, or F, it may be worth a sideways move and then having major upgrades included like a newer airframe, airframe tweaks, much more speed, and a higher selling point in the future.

This scenario is almost exactly what I just completed w my J.  The biggest reason I didn't mind doing it is because I am building hours towards an A&P license for use after my retirement.  The reality is I am probably 5-10K upside down in mine now but, that things flies great!  Not only did I do a FF forward but numerous other areas of the plane as well.  Except for the paint and a tank reseal, I have replaced, overhauled or otherwise repaired the vast majority of systems on the plane.  Because I have her in such good shape now, I am already considering the tanks and paint to just go ahead and get it all done.  There is no way to really justify the labor and money except that I know this plane from the inside out and would feel comfortable flying her anywhere you would ever fly a single engine plane.

This is definitely the type of project that you do because you really know what you're getting into or, as in my case, you're just too dumb to know better.

The one with 1160 useful load I think, though memory could be wrong, is the one that was in the airport flood in Oregon or Washington in the early 1990s.  It was for a sale a few years ago and noted that the gear and everything below water line was replaced.  Maybe the new gear had a higher useful load or got a paper STC for that plus the Missile STC.  That's 100 pounds more than my useful load!  Water level just touched the belly panels if I remember the story correctly on that airplane.

Update - The Missile that is the topic of this post has a Purchase Agreement in place (unsure of the amount) and will undergo a pre-buy.  I'll know soon if the deal will move forward or if it will be available again.

Seth will have to confirm, but my understanding from a prior conversation with Seth is that this Missile was indeed sold.

This particular Missile did indeed sell and the new owner received an amazing deal.  He's here on MooneySpace.

The aircraft now resides in the Caronlinas.
