Brian,

1) What length of runway do you have?

2) My honest concern was for a new owner that hasn't compared DA performance to available runway length.  It has happened here at MooneySpace before.  A J settled in the woods after T/O.

3) Adding the turbo complexity and TnGs is getting to the level that normal brains have cognitive limitations.  The obvious side effect is landing with the gear up.  The less obvious side effect is running out of runway at the far end...

4) Then there are a few people that show up here with no intention of having a CFI on board for transition training.  Often, they are unaware of how much detail they are unfamiliar with. Mooney specific transition training and MAPA training are worth looking into.  The search box will reveal a whole slew of info.

5) There are quite a few members here with RayJay TN systems on their IO360s.

Some things to keep in mind. Not everybody likes to type with the detail that may be required to answer your question.  Detail is the thing that really helps the OP get a proper answer.  It really helps to get a reader that may not feel like typing in an answer.

Great Mooney pilot minds don't all think alike.  Witness the old LOP vs. ROP files for examples.  For a recent example search how a 'three mile base' gets interpreted...

Hope this helps to inspire conversation.

Best regards,

1) POH/STC limitations say: no turbo under 3500 feet, 3500-20,000 ft 27.5'' for no more than 3 mins, 20K+ 25''MP continuous...

And the POH/STC limitations say do not engage the turbo unless the throttle is wide open.  You have what the answer is, if you want to operate differently by all means that is your choice but question asked and answered.

We have 5500 and 10,000 ft runways--so no big deal. Lots of space. I am very very very aware of DA. We live and breathe it here.

Based on everything I have read, and from all of the thoughts here, there is no reason to ever do a TNG again.

I have 3 CFIs at my disposal, all 3 of which have tons of Mooney experience. Whew.

Really appreciate everyone's help--and as Mike said, question asked AND answered. WOT, then engage the turbo.

Brian, I didn't mean to get off on the wrong foot.  Speaking to T&Gs, I do them year round here at sea level and I think that they are good practice if done precisely (spot landings and mains only touch downs).  With the runways you have at Montrose, I don't see why you can't do them NA all day long in the spring winter and fall.  Do you find that your plane performs so sluggishly that they are uncomfortable without the turbo?

Ha! No worries!!! No wrong feet at all...and I can totally do them NA and do so. There real difference is not on the roll but on the climb. So, still--no big deal, I can just take off, and as past of my post t/o checklist (flaps, prop, boost pump) I can add turbo to get back to 25 or 26''...which is kind of where I am landing.

Thanks again!
