Clock/Timer w/USB Charger

My clock died (I'll check the connections as it had been intermittent at first, but if it's dead it's dead) and though I have timers buried in different systems, I've been looking at the best way to replace it.

Here is a clock from Mid Continent Instruments:  MCI MD93 Digital Clock USB Charger.  It's a digital clock (that's what I have now, well, when working - I do like Analog for sight picture recognition purposes) with two USB chargers in the face of the clock and it can indeed be installed in certified aircraft.  I have not checked to see if can be installed in a Mooney yet, but it's not for the experimental market only.

My clock is located on the left lower side of the cockpit, and this could be a great place to swap out and have two USB chargers.  Especially for the ipad that will soon be yoke ram mounted.  I usually fly with a full charge, but to know I can plug it in if need be (I have portable chargers and have used them before in my plane) but that just seems like a clean solution.

Anyone use one of these?

I must admit that aviation clocks / prices of aviation clocks are a bit of mystery to me ....

I can be convinced on how aviation products can be expensive because of certification cost. But then a clock with NO FAA Approval costs north of $425 !!

According to the Spruce website, the MCI MD93 is TSO but I have not seen that written in the product data sheet. It looks good.

I believe the FAA considers the install of a clock as a minor mod in accordance with FAR 21.93(a) although the Spruce website has different wording and requirement depending on what clock model you look at. As a general rule, the old ugly ones are TSO or STC's or PMA'd.

I would check radios at various frequencies to insure no squawk breaks with devices plugged in and charging.

I have a similar one to that already in the plane.  I'm going to probably replace my clock, so this may give dedicated lines near the pilot yoke for the iPad mini.

but it is pricy

I've had my eye on that one for a while, but haven't gone for it yet due to the relatively high cost at ~$500 I believe.

MCI makes some great hardware and I'm sure it is a nice unit.

If that unit was $200 it would be ridiculous, but I'd probably buy one... but $587 just can't do that.
