Help. Fabricate a right-Co-Pilot side knee ram air vent

I have bugged my A&P to install a right side co-pilot vent for years.  Never gets it done.  I have the matching vent from pilot side, but need the "mount" fabricated that the eyeball fits into sealing the hole created in the existing right side-ram air vent.  Anybody have a template/want to fab me one for a 1966 E?  PM me for price on the job.  Just want to get this project done.  If I hand him ALL the parts then mounting should not be a big deal.

You might try buying the right side box from a salvage yard...probably be easier that way.  They might just cut it out of a fuselage, and then you can de-rivet it for use in your plane.

On the F is seems like the pilot side is just a hole cut into the side where the outside vent is and three screws to hold the eyeball vent.  The starboard side has the tubing for the Fresh air vent.    Getting the angle correct so it blows back would be the challenge.   Seems like a hole cut into the side of the fresh air tubing attachment would work. I don't think the parts manual shows enough detail of the fresh air venting.  The fresh air SCAT tubing is a pain to take off and replace since it is an oval vent hole.  Can you take pictures? 

Also the top of the outside vent has holes with tubing that cool the radios.   You might be reducing airflow too much with your new vent..

I've got a '66C and my arrangement sounds similar to Yetti's. Also with out that mechanism you don't have a way to blend hot and cold air.

I'd be curious to see what you have arranged as well.

 I like the cut it out of an existing suggestion.  Anybody know of some good salvage yards/contact info?

I'll take pictures of mine tonight, left and right for comparison. By memory, they are pretty similar. NACA slot on the outside, an eyeball that you can see out around on the inside. Both inside vents are adjustable, free-aiming like the overhead vents in the airlines except aluminum instead of plastic.

I think I made this too hard.    Cut a hole in the vent below the fresh air.  I would suggest a knockout punch to create the hole.  if you can't get the knockout punch down the scoop, then hole saw. Measure to make sure the pilot bit does not go to the outside of the vent.  drill pilot holes for the three screws and install.

I HAVE the vent.  I know where it goes.  The vent does NOT sit flush after you cut.  It is NOT square.  It needs a metal seal fabbed for the vent to screw into and be water tight.  Yes Yetti, you made that too hard.  :)

Hank, A photo won't help as I know it needs to have a fabbed piece in the cut hole to allow the screws on the ball vent mount plate to have a flush flat surface to mate with...
