It depends on the original installation I believe whether or not you need re-wiring.  It might even be a different tray, but I can't remember for sure.  I briefly checked into it when I installed my ES many years ago and decided to just go straight for the ES vs. waiting & upgrading later.

We did the ES upgrade at Lancaster Avionics at KLNS. One wire had to be replaced because it wasn't the correct one at the original installation. They provided a free loaner. The installation cost was about $600.00. It took a little over one week. No problems...we're happy!
