The guy across the street has a boat that's twice the size behind his house. They need to leave this guy alone.

I was pleasantly surprised by the comments accompanying the article. Just about everyone supports him.

We had a local guy have an off field incident in a 172.  The wings were removed and a rope connected to the bumper a truck.  Someone got in the plane to steer and brake and 10 miles later the plane was back in its hanger at the airport.  The procession went right through the middle of town with a second truck following with safety flashers on.

I agree it is his driveway.

In Jacksonville FL I hear they want to prohibit backing into your driveway.  Heck it's your vehicle and your driveway get out of my life and leave me alone.

People need to get a life.  I am certain most people would find something to complain about when it comes to the neighbors as for the fine I would just check the CC&R (I think that's what its called) and if it don't say you cant park an airplane I would tell them to go pound sand.  There might be provisions for an RV and in that case I would say its an RV

I would grab a 12 pack and just sit in it and drink them all! Of course I would wear my aviator glasses, captains hat and shirt. Damn neighbors!

That's all I would wear and sit out in a lawn chair in front of the plane.....

How did he get it there in the first place??

Exactly.

I know the area very well, having grown up there, and Republic Airport from Oceanside are not next door to each other.

If you read the comments in the article, a friend of his said he removed the wings, put the plane on a truck and brought it to his house. He brought he wings over strapped to the top of a van.

He shouldn't have put the wings back on. People would have thought it was a funny looking car.

What a great country we live in..what is this man hurting by utilizing his driveway for its intended purpose, to park a vehicle there...

Did anyone read the actual summons to court that was shown in the photograph accompanying the story?!!  Look close and you will find NO mention of the aircraft in the summons.  There were two summons and those related to a prohibition of a short wave radio tower in the back yard and something that was not in compliance with a white fence around his property.   Jeez!

Sounds like their may be no code violation with the plane, but they may be harassing him because of it. Looks like they may be searching for excuses for citations.

Everyday I wonder what country and, for that matter, in what universe I've awakened in. EVERYONE is bothered by something and whatever that something is, it must be regulated or curtailed.  Our liberties and our property rights are being attacked and successfully diminished with alarming regularity.  In real estate investments, I avoid subdivisions/communities with HOA's or binding covenants as you might as well be renting.  Then come the hysterical (historical) societies which usually manage to convince enough owners to form a district and now everyone is pretty well effed when they want to replace the decking on their porch, replace windows, doors, siding or even select paint colors or roofing material.

But this is an airplane forum.  My Mooney now rests in a hangar which is, by practical standards, too large for such a small airplane.  I own the hangar though it is on ground leased from a municipality which has little stipulation under the current Lease Agreement as to how the hangar is to be used.  I have been surreptitiously informed, however, that various persons in the employ of the FBO and elsewhere have been asked to report to the airport administration incidences of storage of anything unrelated to aviation, even if these are merely in addition to an aircraft or other items supporting the operation of an aircraft or if a hangar owner is renting the hangar or space in the hangar even though the latter examples are specifically granted under the current lease.  It is also worth noting that the field in question has many developable hangar sites available, hangar space for rent and multiple hangars for sale.  It is largely a ghost town where the personal end of the GA spectrum is concerned so demand is not relevant.

Now, we all know that anyone with a hangar on a field  which receives funding from the FED's is going to be subject to scrutiny depending on the determination of the various administrators.  The standard, however, is so maligned that I cannot even build an airplane (the completed parts can be assembled but not constructed) in my hangar as it does meet the approved uses as it applies by their definition in the use of property which is not theirs.  Frankly, I can't imagine a better use for a hangar.  As for the poor miscreant with a plane in his driveway, I feel his pain and wish him luck while dealing with everyone else's freedom to deprive him of his.  At least he didn't go lion hunting...

The news made it on TV today. The guy is annoying his neighbors and his wife. Apparently the divorce is in process after 20 years.

The airplane is only a small part of the chain of annoyances.

The tie downs add to the 'reality'.

Reality as in reality show...

So looking forward to the next installment,

I wonder, is some type of special permit required in order to park a boat in the driveway? I don't think so.

Miserable people looking for a momentary escape from their misery try to make life difficult for others who just mind their own business. Then they return to their chronic state of misery.

Problem is there's a whole bunch of these pathetic individuals working at local government offices!

They're attracted to those types of jobs. They can't get a real job in the real world because they're so miserable.

It's pathetic what our country has become.

Why is is so difficult for folks to believe that the wings were removed and reinstalled? Do you folks think he landed his 152 in a nearby parking lot?

It looks like the plane has the wing leading edge cuff and the fences on the upper surface, even so he would have to be very skilled to land it in his driveway!

Or a 1987 Buick Regal without wheels on cinder blocks.

In his place, I'd find a partner for the plane, return it to the airport and put the Regal in the driveway on blocks. Then raise the hood every evening when I got home from work.

In Brazil and in many parts in South America it is not uncommon to find planes on the ranches without any runway. Pilots just land on the roadway leading to the ranch and park the plane on the pasture or in a barn with wide doors. The limited road system beyond the main cities has forced many to this option. In Africa and Australia is also common.
