Amelia Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 If it ain't one thing, it's another- and another. Just got (most of) the new JPI EDM-730 installed, except for the fuel-flow hoses that FedEx, bless 'em, lost until after I had to go home. As a result, I'll have to make another trip to the avionics shop, 600 miles sw. Now the heading bug has broken; the word, if I understand it, is that I'll need a whole 'nother HSI, because despite the cost, they're all plastic inside. Anybody recently bought a nice Aspen or Garmin glass panel and want to donate () their perfectly-good HSI to my favorite charity? If so, I'd like to hear of it-- and how much I'd need to donate to YOUR favorite charity. Thanks! Amelia Quote
FlyDave Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Amelia, I don't have one to "donate" but I dealt with a instrument shop to have my AI (King KI-256) rebuilt and they were 1 AMU less than anyone else. Here is their info: Global Tech Instruments 18380 Enterprise Lane, Huntington Beach, CA 92648 (714) 375-1812 Good Luck! Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Time for Bob Bramble (http://www.aerolabaviation.com/) to have a look...he has a great reputation and excellent pricing. I believe he used to work for/at King and very, very familiar with their HSI systems. Quote
HopePilot Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Out of curiosity, let's say I wanted to exchange my KI525 to get an Aspen. What would I be likely to get? Quote
tony Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I'm just a rookie here but can someone please define what an "AMU" ? I have seen this term referenced in many different posts. Quote
Jeff_S Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 AMU = Aviation Monetary Unit, or any variation of acronym that implies the same thing. Since they don't circulate poor Grover Cleveland's face anymore, you're left with 10 Ben Franklins to represent the $1000 that is equivalent to one AMU. Pilots invented that term since it seems just about anything related to an airplane costs at least that much, so it lessens the emotional pain of having to talk about it. Quote
Amelia Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 Thanks, all, for the replies-- I just sent the KI525A off for repairs, hoping a little 25c gear is all it needs. Riiiiight. We'll see how that goes. And I understand taking it out was the easy part. I'm probably going to need a double-jointed dwarf with very long fingers and no bifocals to get it reconnected. Quote

Parker_Woodruff Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I will send you a PM. I know of a King HSI system you could get... Quote
