Now that I have the maintenance manual I have about a gillion things to learn.  Let me start by seeing if my fellow Mooniacs can answer the following questions:

What is "graphite and kerosene" in the context of the starter drive lubricant.

Where can I purchase lubricants and fluids?

(This is gonna be fun, 'cept now I want a hangar in the back yard so I can work on the ol' gal all the time.)

A hanger in the back yard would allow you to sneak out to the hanger after your wife falls asleep.Laughing

You can get all the lube and other fluids at Spruce, Chief, Wicks, etc.  Probably even Sporty's.  You'll want AeroShell 5, 6, and 7 greases (and 22 for wheel bearings, if you're going to get into those), MIL-5606 hydraulic fluid (for the brakes, and flaps if yours are hydraulic), and Tri-Flow (available at ACE and probably other hardware stores) for most light lubrication needs.

What does everyone grease/lubricate between annuals and with what?  I was thinking of applying LPS2 in the rudder hinges (if that's what they're called).  Good idea or do I use Aeroshell 6?

Well I have been using all the above on the annual currently under way....first off triflow recomended for the million and 0ne fafir bearings found on ends of all pshrods, lps 2 on all hinges (flying services )and any pivot points not containing a zerk fitting.Shell 22 in a grease gun (i use an airpowed one that I can grease 2 handed)for all zercs on ldg gear pivot points and on worm and drive srews as found on ldg gear actuator, tail trim and any guide blocks. Also on worm drives for flap actuator and airbrakes(2000 style)Shell 5 for wheel bearings and dry moly lube for disk brake pins(could also be silacone spray)the starter bendix/and ringgear I also used silacone spray here.A great source of info besides the mooney parts and maintance manual is the mechanics helper sold online or cd by Sacramento Skyranch...a huge knowledge source...hope that helps...kp couch

ps...the graphite /kerosene lube is a home made product and incredibly messy...the idea is a lube with no greasy residue..ie the kero evaporates leaving only the graphite...but will leave black dust every where...I have better luck w/clear inv isable silacone spray..kpc
