cliffy Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Found a way to stay lots warmer in my short body D. Have always had cold air coming from the baggage area forward to the front. Great in the summer but in the winter a different story. Made a paper pattern of the area between the top of the rear seat (bench type) and the ceiling radius. Then I cut a 4" thick foam pad to about 1" bigger all around than the pattern. By carefully pushing into the back seat area it stays in place by itself. What a big difference. Now the cabin heater keeps us warm. Much better than before. No more draft from the back. 1 Quote
furledd Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Nice idea! I just posted a topic on heat but mine is too hot not too cold. My M20F seems to stay pretty warm . Quote
carusoam Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Cliff, That is worth a photo if you can! Best regards, -a- Quote
cliffy Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 I'll see if I can get a photo today It works great! Quote

Rwsavory Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Doesn't that block your view out the back? That's what the side mirror is for, silly. 1 Quote

Guitarmaster Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Sounds like the seal around your baggage door is leaking. If so, try Jose's $5 door seal fix. When mine wears out, I am all over it! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

cliffy Posted January 6, 2015 Author Report Posted January 6, 2015 My side view mirrors work good just like when towing my trailer :-) Couldn't get to the airport today maybe tomorrow. Quote
cliffy Posted January 26, 2015 Author Report Posted January 26, 2015 Here's a picture of the foam plug Finally got to the airport 1 Quote
Marauder Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Never been an issue for me... Just put one of my full figured gals back there and nothing is coming forward. Then again, getting her back out is a whole different problem. On a more serious note, I have never had a heat problem in my F. Are the designs different on the short and longer bodies? 2 Quote
cliffy Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 Don't know about differences but I have a large leak forward from the tail cone. Nice in the summer but cold in the winter. It will go away when I redo the interior here shortly but until then this works! Quote
Andy95W Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks, Cliffy. Glad you got the chance to post the picture. Hope you were able to go flying while you were out at the airport. Quote
aaronk25 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 The tail gets pressurized with cold air so plug any open holes to the cockpit or you will freeze your ass off. Example the battery and avionics have a 3" hole to pass though and some jack ass in the avionics shop never replugs it after running new wires. It equates to a leaf blower worth of cold air blowing in and if the carpet blocks the flow it will divert behind the pilots side plastic interior squarely freezing the rear pax. To find this remove the battery access panel on the tail and look left with a flash light. I looked for the source of this cold air leak for some time. Plugged the hole with electrical puddy.....way better. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Aside from the normal need to replace the factory aluminum tape sealing the gaps under the rear seat my F doesn't seem to be drafty. -Robert Quote
BorealOne Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Another use for foam is to cut some plugs to fit the side vents. I run all winter like that. Quote
Mooneymite Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Reading all these posts about fuselage air leaks makes me wonder if CO is a problem....particularly if the leaks are on/near the belly. Quote
cliffy Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 I have no battery or avionics in the tailcone but the rear bulkhead is not sealed too well so like I said- when I redo the interior this will be a priority. Quote
