Since my original compass was leaking, I tried to repair it and was unsuccessful. I looked at getting a vertical card compass but the reviews were not that good and they're expensive.

This is what I ended up with. SIRS navigator. So far, it's a great compass I can highly recommend it!

Nice backlighting, highly accurate and not too expensive.

+1 for the SIRS.

I have a SIRS as well.  Quality compass and best of all, solved my magnetism issue.   The only issue I have is for me it seems to be reverse sensing.  You turn right for the compass to go left.  For this simple Texas boy, that is a bit confusing.

Same as the original model, Gary.

So getting the vertical card is for you. They added a couple gears, and the card turns like you would expect.

It just cost you a few bucks more.

In real life flying, after IR training... I use the compass on the ground to verify the other Nav gadgets are working. At this time the compass isn't even moving. Keep the low buck one and spend the extras on the next GPS.

I'm only a PP, not a cfi...

Best regards,

When you got the new one did you have your A&P do a compass swing and make up a new compass card to put on it? :-) :-)

Yes. I did it with him. It was fun and I learned a lot!

I made the compass correction card on my computer.
