Has anyone up-graded to a 406 ELT and got a "working when removed" Ameri-King450  ELT that uses D-cell batteries?

I have an experimental plane with an ELT that uses batteries that are worth more than the ELT!  I would like to switch to something that uses the cheaper batteries.

I know these are going obsolete and I can get one from Spruce for about $200, but.....

The ACK E-01 also uses D-cell Duracell batteries.

One of those would probably work, too.  Do you have one?

In my plane, but its not for sale. I can't imagine they are very hard or expensive to procure. I'd pay 100$ for one, just be patient with Beechtalk, Ebay, or VAF.  I've had good luck buying stuff like this by PM'ing the sellers and offering 1/2 to 2/3rds of their asking price. I recently bought some overlapping nose gear doors, later model plastic trim wheel with mechanism, baggage door, MLG retraction link, KX-170B radio parts, DME box, etc this way.

not a chance. I like the cheap batteries, and the whip ELT antenna hidden under the dorsal fin.  The 406 antenna options, suck.

Unfortunately, I agree.
