Last time I checked (probably 10 years ago) the spacer was pretty cheap. Good chance you'll pay more for shipping than the spacer.

Thanks. It sounds like this will be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix. Hopefully this will take care of the issue.

The spacer was ~40$ but the shipping, nose gear compression tool, and shipping for that added up to 200$, plus the labor of installing the thing.

what is wrong with  finding  a wind calm day and checking against GPS GS on take off ?

not very accurate but 5 to 10 knots should show.

find a passenger to read the GPS while the pilot read the ASI

I got one from Don. It was right at $70 total ... shipped.

Not sure I need it yet, just wanted it on hand - will level and check this annual before installing a new LASAR upper truss ...

What benefit does replacing the entire upper truss provide as opposed to just installing the spacer, aside from it being new?

The part arrived and my mechanic is going to install it in the next few days. I didn't think to ask if he had a nose gear compression tool but I'm assuming he does, or has another way to install it. Is there a specific nose gear compression tool specifically for a Mooney or this service bulletin that is required?

There is a specific gear compression tool. It's not too hard to do the mains without it, but it's quite physically necessary to do the nose gear. I think we rented one from www.hangartoolbox.com when replacing my donuts last fall. If I got the website wrong, it's something similar. Good luck with yours.

I live in AZ, but not Phoenix. It's a quick flight for me though and would be a good flight to get some hours. What airport are you closest to in PHX and how much would you charge?

Next time you are airborne pull out the alternate air and check for air speed and VSI change. If you do not a see change you likely have a static air cabin leak.

I recently had the pitot static/transponder inspection done and everything came back fine. The nose gear service bulletin is the likely culprit which should be fixed soon.

Glad everything worked out well.

It sure is nice having forums like these to pass information. 20 years ago, it came down to hit-or-miss trial and error and luck, or taking your plane to an MSC. And even then hoping for a guy who'd say, "yeah, I've seen that before".
