flyboy0681 Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 After passing my instrument rating check ride last week I was looking forward to some crummy flying weather but all I got was a clear day flying over the state. The good news is that my route took me right over the Disney complex, something I never got to see while flying VFR. 1 Quote
rbridges Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 cool pic. if you look real close, you can actually see someone paying $10 for a hamburger and $5 for a glass of coke. seriously, that is a pretty cool shot. Quote
teethdoc Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Cool!. I flew VFR to KISM last fall and they brought me in right over Epcot, and departed over the castle. Super cool! Quote

rbridges Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Congrats on the IR. Best regards, -a- oh yeah, forgot to give congrats on the rating. that's a huge accomplishment. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted February 17, 2014 Author Report Posted February 17, 2014 that's a huge accomplishment. Due to many factors it took me two years to complete and a lot of hours due to having to re-learn things that got rusty after not having gone up for sometimes 4 weeks at a time. Add to the mix probably two months of when the plane wasn't available due to maintenance. It was a long haul but I got through it. Like I've said many times before, I would have completed it in half the time if I was 23 instead of 53. The fine motor skills ain't what they used to be and all of the neuron's aren't firing. I am glad about one thing, by the time I took the check ride I had accumulated 10 hours in actual conditions and I feel very comfortable there with just the tip of my fingers on the yoke. This is opposed to a low time, newly minted pilot who has never flown through IMC. Quote
sixtypilot Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 ha...a bunch of pilots talking about how much disney land costs. (shakes head) 2 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Pilots are some of the cheapest people I've ever met. There is a guy at the airport who owns a half a million dollars worth of aircraft and drives a thirty year old Toyota. 3 Quote
carusoam Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Frugal, in an engineering sort of way... How else can you get $0.5MM worth of planes? -a- Quote
Hank Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 I'd be happy to just penny pinch my way into an Ovation . . . Quote
carusoam Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Just be ready when the opportunity comes your way. Grab hold with both hands, and never let go. Life is short, fly fast! Quote
jetdriven Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 I flew right over Orlando today at 9 AM, I heard another Mooney, was that you? We were N201EQ. http://uk.flightaware.com/live/flight/N201EQ/history/20140217/1330Z/KMLB/KASD 1 Quote

flyboy0681 Posted February 17, 2014 Author Report Posted February 17, 2014 That was definitely me and I remember listening to you as well. Small world. And if I'm not mistaken, the same controller took care of both of us last Friday somewhere around Tampa. Quote
jetdriven Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Yep we were in Tampa Friday as well. Small world. Friday we flew Houston to Tampa to check out Hawk Aircraft painting at Tampa Executive. Launched in VV001 and 1/8th mile in fog, but the 4 hour flight was nice. Tampa to West Palm to pick up an owner of a M20TN Acclaim to fly to the MAPA safety Foundation clinic in Melbuorne. GFC-700 autopilot, synthetic vision, airbag seatbelts, air conditioner, all that. Becca took N201EQ to Boca for the weekend. I then flew 6 hours in the Acclaim and 6 hours in another 201. Today we flew Melbourne to Houston with a stop in Slidell, LA for gas. Another 6 hours. So you could say I got some Mooney flying in Quote

I have got my Instrument written test endorsement today upon completion of the Sportys Instrument Course. I will take the written very soon. I have spent bunch of time on my home made simulator and I am ready to take the CFII up there. I can't wait to do that, hopefully get me IR within few months and join that very exclusive club. Quote

fantom Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Pilots are some of the cheapest people I've ever met. That's why we have the CB Club around here, with our own Marauder as President. Obviously looks don't count. Quote

DrBill Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 Nice picture.. it's amazing how small it looks from this POV compared to walking around the place... Everytime I go to S Florida (Okeechobee) they vector me around either to Gainsville VOR or over Daytona to Melbourne. BILL Quote
