larryb Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Hello: I'm looking for a more comfortable oxygen canula. I currently have a SkyOx system from a few years ago. The vinyl tube is pretty stiff, especially when cold. It's basically a pain to use, and I have to use it often. Mountain high has their E-Z Breathe II Boom Canula that attaches to a headset. It looks like it might be a more comfortable and convenient solution. Does anybody have experience with this system? Thanks, Larry http://www.mhoxygen.com/index.php/face-masks/cannulas/82-ez-breathe-ii Quote
Nathan Peterson Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Hey Larry, I use what you use and like you said when it is cold the tubes are hard to mold to your face…. I do wrap them around my headrest to get the lines to straighten out. Look forward to a Pirep if you decide. Nate Quote
Danb Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Larry, I also use the system you and Nate use, I tried the ez boom I a couple yrs ago, it was a strict pain, unreasonably cumbersome, I just looked at the link you provided, if they would give a trial period I would definitely give it another go. I have a mask with the mic and have never tried it even when I should If you guys use the mask sometimes how sure you making out with. Thanx Dan Quote
M20F-1968 Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 I am guessing here, but it seems that this system could be a real pain, given that: 1) The nasal cannula prongs are inserted into your nose. The headset can move, your nose can not. 2) It would seem the suction cup would have a propensity to fall off the headset. Does anyone have experience? John Breda Quote
larryb Posted February 2, 2014 Author Report Posted February 2, 2014 The MH boom does not use a suction cup. It uses a metal ball stud attached with a double-sided foam adhesive. Quote
Danb Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 John that's one of the problems I had with the original boom I felt as though when I had head movements the inserts in the nose bothered me and I was always trying to adjust them to get a good feel and assured I was getting o2 Quote
aviatoreb Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 That looks to me to be identical to the oxyarm unit, which is what I have. http://www.aeromedix.com/OxyArm_Aviator_Headset-Mounted_Nasal_Cannula.html I love it. Much more comfortable and convenient than a traditional cannula. I always felt with a traditional cannula that when I turn my head that it tugs on my nose which almost made me sort of look by turning my shoulders instead of my neck after a while, and still I felt tangled in tubes and it tugged on my nose. With the oxyarm attached to my headset it moves with your head and no nose-tugging. Plus you can place it to just go in your nose but not touch (and it stays that way being mounted firmly on the headset). So it does not only does it not tug on my nose when I turn my head - it doesn't touch my nose at all often and I forget I am wearing it - almost - still have to nose breath and check oxpulse for nose-ops. Plus it is more convenient to set up on the ground, ready to go, but flipped up parallel to the headset band, and the just flip it down and into place when you fly up to O2 altitudes, and back up when you fly down to lower altitudes. I am thinking the MH unit is in fact the oxyarm in disguise. In fact MH used to sell oxyarm and they do not seem to any more. http://www.mhoxygen.com/index.php/component/attachments/download/452 After I got one oxyarm, I got several - like half a dozen - of these medical version of the same unit: http://www.cpapusa.com/oxygen/cannulas--masks/nasal--mask/OxyArm-Plus-Cannula-with-Headband-Includes-7-oxygen-line_PT2307.html I stole the arm and cannula part of the headset thing you see designed for medical use and I got a little ball of the right diameter, and glued that to my headset. They were $12 each from some medical supply company when I got them. Really I should have gotten 3 maybe instead of 6 since I still have 4 in a box in the hangar. Quote
