  1. Garmin Aera 796 (this is the one that has the GXM40 XM antenna with which you can subscribe to XM weather and/or XM Radio Infotainment). Touch screen, pinch and zoom. Or you can pair it via Bluetooth to a GDL 39 - it will give you ADS-B weather and traffic without the XM subscription cost. Also if you pair it with the GDL39 3D you get AHRS.) Synthetic Vision. Geo-Referenced approach plates. It can be used in portrait or landsape mode. Excellent Condition It has the DC connection with cigarette lighter plug and the take home mount with AC power which makes updates and practicing with the unit convenient. $1450 plus $25 shipping. lancecasper@me.com
  2. The depth of your WX-10 is 9.22 inches. - total weight is 7.7 pounds. The depth of the WX-950 is 11.46 inches including the backplate - total weight is 2.9 pounds. I am told that the same tray is used for both units, as you'll see in picture #2 of this random Ebay ad for a WX-10, so it should fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3M-StormScope-WX-10A-/321759734847?hash=item4aea5fec3f&vxp=mtr
  3. Back to our regularly scheduled program . . . Yes the WX-950 is still for sale
  4. WX-950 Stormscope removed from single owner airplane - excellent condition - working when removed. The WX-950 is a standalone unit - no processor box in the tail of the airplane. Just the antenna alone new is over $1000. This was pulled out for a WX-500 to display on Aspens. Do you need a stormscope if you have XM or ADS-B weather? https://nebula.wsimg.com/ffd4beeb00ea21c3ab58c661525732e0?AccessKeyId=CE0FDFF5DC6368F9B05B&disposition=0&alloworigin=1 First $1250 +$25 shipping gets the stormscope and antenna. You will need the cable for install (meaning you will have to get a cable). lancecasper@me.com

  7. I have progressive and I have photochromatic which darken in the sunlight - both of these work fine. The book for my Avidyne IFD540 says to avoid the use of polarized sunglasses. Most of the moving maps have a coating on the screen so this washes out the light I guess.
  8. I flew into an airport near League City TX (KSPX i think they called it - not there anymore) once about 14 years ago in a Piper Malibu Mirage. I was going to be there over the weekend and asked them to top it off. They called my cell phone an hours later to say that they were draining my tanks - that the new line guy had topped it off with Jet A. I'm glas they caught it. I am 99% sure I would have noticed it when I sumped the tanks during pre-flight. But ever since then I have been very diligent in making sure I wasn't misfueled.
  9. The guys at All American are top notch!!
  10. Mooney used a Eurostretch wool fabric on the headliners in those years and the adhesive stops holding eventually. On a 1997 Mooney Encore I had thoughts of re-gluing the same material, but that didn't not prove successful, so I ordered three yards of this: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/headlinerwool.php?clickkey=310688 I took the fiberglass headliner pieces and the fabric to a local upholstery shop and they did a great job. I replaced all of the eurostretch for $325 materials and labor. I now have a 2000 Ovation with the same issue. I'll eventually get around to doing the same.
  11. How about sending a picture of the dent?
  12. It's still on Controller: http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-M20K-231/1979-MOONEY-M20K-231/1326523.htm
  13. I got 4 Teledyne Alphabeam normally $275 each through Spruce for $255 each on Black Friday. They would probably do the same anytime if you called them up.
  14. The most effective thing that VG's do is remove $1500-$2000 from your wallet which decreases your sink rate on short final.
  15. I had mine done in December 2014. It was $6750 to Bob Minnis for the STC. I took my prop governor along with $912 to Navajo accessories to rebuild it and replace with the upgraded spring. I have a JPI-EDM930 which needed to be reprogrammed instead of buying a new tach. There was a few hundred dollars to my A&P/IA to do this. I already had the prop also. I think it was a shade over $8000 total for the upgrade.

  17. I first went with the original Whelen Parmetheus and they were no brighter than the incandescent, just drew much less current. Since the airport that I used to base at had a lot of deer at night I sold the Whelens and bought the Teledyne Alphabeams - well worth the difference!
  18. I put Teledyne Alphabeam Taxi/Landing lights in my M20R and the brightness is amazing. In your case, the low current draw is also great for 14v airplanes. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/teledynelandinglight.php?clickkey=5657
  19. Brian Kendrick is another great option. He used to work at Mooney and still lives in Kerrville. He knows Mooneys inside out and does great work on these airplanes. He is mobile and can come to you or he also works independently out of San Marcos. His number is (830)370-1190. http://www.mooneysupport.net/2.html
  20. Don't ruin the beauty and function of that laminar flow wing with VG's. It will handle slow flight just fine with good instruction and practice.
  21. Looks like it is: http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-M20K-231/1979-MOONEY-M20K-231/1326523.htm
  22. I admit I like all things Apple. I have an iPhone 6+, iPad Air, Macbook Pro, but I still like the Garmin 796/GDL 39 3D best for the cockpit. I mount it at the top of my compass post (RAM-B-231ZU) horizontally with a very short double socket (RAP-B-201U-A). It blocks nothing and just works all the time better than anything else. I still have my ipad with me but I have more confidence in the durability and stable interface of the 796. It's is made for the harsh environment of the cockpit.
