  1. Once it's determined that the gear isn't coming down I would figure that the airplane now belongs to the insurance company. I would only be concerned with two things at that point - keeping my airspeed on final a safe cushion above stall speed and getting out of there once on the ground..
  2. I activated the Skywatch boating package for $9.95 per month and on my 796 I get Metars, Cloud Tops, City Forecasts, but the Nexrad never shows up - it always says its is waiting for Nexrad. Am I doing something wrong? Are you getting Nexrad on yours? Thanks
  3. Delaware does not have Sales Tax on purchases and they have a low corporate (franchise) tax.
  4. If it's standard PPG colors: http://www.aerotouchups.com/
  5. Get stuck with the Aspen . . lol?? That's hilarious. They are both good systems. Each person gets to make the choice and thousands of satisfied Aspen owners are happy that they're stuck with the Aspens I guess, just like thousands are happy that they're stuck with the G500.
  6. Maybe Aspen will step in and save King again http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2011/March/23/Aspen-Honeywell-Bendix-King-to-bring-KSN-770-MFD-to-market Seriously, if it's worth 6000 to replace your spinning AI, why isn't it worth 12000 to replace the AI and the HSI and all the hardware and weight that goes with it? If you do it while either of them are still working you can recoup some of your money.
  7. Do you also believe that someday there's gonna be a little Richard Simmons Jr. running around? It's not gonna happen.
  8. I didn't realize that the King KI300 was certified yet and was even a choice. Oh wait, it's not. King is the same company that took seven years and needed someone else's help to get the KSN770 certified. Let's see who was it that finally finished it and got it certified . . . hmm? Oh yeah it was Aspen that's right . . lol
  9. Aspen's new promotion offering the SV and the AOA together for $3295 has me thinking. http://www.aspenavionics.com/news/aspen-introduces-evolution-pro-plus-safety-package/
  10. I was a little skeptical of the Aspen but ended up buying a 2000 Ovation that has a dual Aspen in it. I was thinking it was a downgrade from a G500, but I am very impressed with it. It is a great set-up. Having flown with it for awhile now, I would do it again in a minute if I ever had an airplane that needed an AI or HSI replacement. They always seem to have some kind of special going on so they are very competitive. Simple to learn, easy way to get GPSS. The pervious owner had done a complete panel overhaul, so they are flush mount, which was nice, but not necessary with the Aspen since they plug into a standard instrument hole. The Skywatch and WX500 display nicely on them. The dual setup has redundancy and mine has battery backup. Since I have a backup electric AI with battery also I have no more vacuum pumps to replace.
  11. Call Bob Minnis of Minnis Aviation (678-398-9781 cell 678-361-5696)
  12. It might make sense to go with an SL30 Nav com rather than an SL40 com - same footprint
  13. Your Ovation would use the RG24-15 Concorde model. I have two in my airplane. I went through Gills in my Bravo and finally bit the bullet and bought Concordes - much longer lasting. It's worth it to keep them on the correct Battery Minder though.
  14. For the Concorde RG24-15 it's the Battery Minder with the S5 suffix (24041-AA-S5) and then get a 210-AY splitter which allows the one Battery Minder to take care of both batteries. No reason you can't get 5-7 years out of your batteries with that set-up.
  15. Still available. If you still have a Non-Waas Garmin 430 make a good deal on this and sell your 430 - it will be a lot cheaper than having Garmin upgrade your 430 to WAAS.
  16. Sorry hit enter twice
  17. Gently used Garmin Aera 796 with case and yoke mount and 12/24 v cigarette lighter plug. Excellent condition - has had a screen protector on since day one. This can be used on its own, but can also connect to: - Optional GDL39R or GDL-39 or GDL-39-3D for ADS-B in weather and traffic and AHRS with the 3D model m https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the- m ... 93601.html - Optional Flight Stream installed in your airplane m https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the- m ... 53681.html - Optional XM weather (either GXM40 or GXM42 antennas will work) I have a new GXM40 for $100. Excellent condition. SOLD e lancecasper@me.com call or text 210-643-4161
  18. Another example of how reliant we've become on tablets (I'm as guilty as anyone - I have a iPad Air 2 and an iPhone 6+ running Garmin Pilot). iPads and Android tablets are amazing devices with great apps which are wonderful toys in the cockpit. But a Garmin 796 which is a dedicated aviation backup is much more reliable since it runs only aviation software and doesn't have conflicting apps running in the background. I used a 396, then a 496, then a 696 and then a 796 since about a year after they came out and never had it re-boot randomly in flight. The software updates in the past two years just keep making it more useful all the time. Every time I've upgraded I've always been able to get a good percentage of my money back on the used market since they are in high demand and hold their value.
  19. Main software is 3.3; GPS Software is 3.2
  20. Antenna is not included - next time I'm at the airport I'll look for the software version for you.
  21. I really like my iPad for a lot of things and it's a cool toy for the cockpit, but the Garmin 796 is made for aviation. Never an issue. They aren't cheap but they are worth it as a good solid backup.
  22. All Bravos had a backup vacuum system.
  23. Bump - feel free to make a reasonable offer
  24. I am an Apple fanboy if there ever was one. I bought my first Mac in 1984. I like my iPad and I have a subscription to Garmin Pilot, but living in TX I have had my iPad overheat on me a couple times in the cockpit. I have had to wait for it to cool down and then restart. Although the screen on the iPad is great for a lot of things it is not bright enough for me at full brightness during the day in an airplane. I already own a 796 and have it mounted in the airplane. I intend on keeping it - it's rugged and made for the cockpit environment.
