  1. Nope, it just requires following the instructions. It specifically says that a battery tender is not sufficient. I bought a 28v power supply a couple years ago on Beechtalk for $120 and I use it any time I need to do updates to databases or software or just familiarize myself with my avionics.
  2. I did the update and I followed every word of the instructions, including hooking it up to a proper 28v external power supply, and it worked perfectly. On page 6 of the instructions is says, in red, "Avidyne suggests that an external power supply (note a battery tender is not sufficient) be used or that the aircraft be running with the alternator supplying voltage for the duration of the update. If electrical power is lost during the update the IFD may have to return to Avidyne for repair incurring a charge of $1200.00. " These are the instructions: 601-00182-034.pdf People not following the instructions exactly and then bricking the unit is why Avidyne now doesn't want owners doing the updates.
  3. Here was the price list from three years ago from Aero Comfort. At least it's a ballpark idea - I'm sure it's a little higher now. PriceList (1-2-14).pdf
  4. You should erase the files starting with "BK". Here are the four things you need on the USB drive: • 500-00205-000 GoldMaster.dsf Rev 04 - Database and Configuration Update Utility • 500-00207-000 CONFORMITY CHECKER.dsf Rev 9 - Conformity Check Utility • 500-00228-000 RUNONCE Rev 00 - Automatic load command script. • 500-00206-000 FULL UPDATE.dsf Rev 10 - Code load utility. If you haven't done so, print this and follow it step by step: 601-00182-034.pdf
  5. Hector at Aero Comfort in San Antonio
  6. Close, yours (#1951) would actually be the 12th built. #1 1940 #2 1941 . . . #10 1949 #11 1950 #12 1951
  7. Wow it's nice to know that at least one person makes a perfect landing every time.
  8. Of course since Texas is its own country.
  9. Find an A & P with an Aviall account - they are the only Distributor. Everyone else buys from them so they have the best price.
  10. When they are in good shape the discs absorb a lot of the shock, when they aren't in good shape the airframe does - your choice. You will notice a much more stable feel when taxiing after the discs are replaced. Don't go by whether they are cracked. The rubber gets hard from age and loses it's elasticity. You won't see them cracked very often unless the airplane has spent its life outside. It's probably going to run $100 per year on a short or mid body for shock discs. More like $130 per year on a long body. (labor not included - it usually runs <$500 for labor to replace all 11 discs)
  11. I'd like to be listed and have a link
  12. That's half correct - PS Engineering makes the Avidyne unit, but definitely not the Garmin 340 (maybe other Garmin units but I'm not sure).
  13. Avidyne 240 Audio Panel is made by PS Engineering. It's equivalent to a PS Engineering 8000BT.
  14. You can get the FAA records quicker if you spend a little extra https://www.aopa.org/go-fly/aircraft-and-ownership/buying-an-aircraft/aircraft-title-and-escrow-services
  15. It looks like it's been to Longview TX before. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N2977L You might call Don Maxwell and ask him about it.
  16. That's exactly correct. The synthetic was much more slippery so had some good qualities but thinking they could keep it in there on an extended basis was wrong. The lead and other contaminants did not stay suspended and turned into black sludge if kept in for a long time. If people changed it every 25 hours it was probably the best of both worlds.
  17. Could we get some better pictures to see how the screws mount? Thanks
  18. If you're going to pick it up in San Antonio I would recommend a few hours transition time with Bob Cabe. The long body handles a little differently than your K did.
  19. All 252's came with the MB engine. You might be thinking of the TSIO-360-SB engine.
  20. I haven't had an annual but I've been in there many times when in Lubbock and had oil changes. Very professional, great service, seemed reasonable for a Mooney Service Center.
  21. http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2017/05/mooney-m20tn-acclaim-n9306-incident.html Looks like a new owner - recent application for registration.
  22. Yes, STEC and Century both have STC's for the M20J.
  23. My Stormscope helps to clarify what I see on ADS-B. Is it in early convective stage, is it building fast, is it a solid line? I also have a 9.99 XM marine subscription that I use on a Garmin 496 just in case - I get METARS and Nexrad (I wish it worked on my 796). I like having all three for a complete picture, especially since I only pay a small subscription fee.
