  1. Everyone has a bad day, I have had several so has Maverick (Top Gun). Cruiser: The simple fact is you feel responsible for "a prop strike" and you have a confidence problem. Now I'm not gonna sit here and blow sunshine up your ass, "Steingar". A good pilot is compelled to always evaluate what's happened, so he can apply what he's learned. Up there, we gotta push it. That's our job. It's your option, "Steingar". All yours. (as adapted from Top Gun)
  2. This is a failure on the avionics shop. They are demanding you remove something that has been installed and used previously. Find out what they claim is needed in order for it to remain. do you have one of these? http://www.katerno.com/detail/s/273505/p/RS12-020/Gps/loran-Data-Switch/20k---Rs12-020 I can't believe they would not allow it to remain.
  3. the key here is what do you mean by "high"
  4. best test is at rpcc suggested above. Turn off everything except the radio and then start turning things on one at a time.
  5. I agree with your Camguard observations. I have 1800 hrs. on three original cylinders. The first replacement was the #5 because the previous owner was unaware of the Alternator issue and the rings seized in the grooves. The second (#2) and third (#4) were because of cracks. Best treatment for our engines is to fly far and fly often.
  6. How do you accurately measure oil usage? I check before every flight. It takes at least two or three days for the oil to drain to the point of a fair comparison.
  7. One very important item that seems to be overlooked in this argument is the motivation (incentive) to privatize. I don't know the specific details but my question is "who is going to take over the retirement responsibility? The pensions for ATC employees? Seems like this is going the way of the Postal Service. They can't survive because of the long term obligations to pensions. ATC will fail the same way but if the government privatizes it, they can point the finger elsewhere.
  8. I need a little more info......... Is this a new install? Did it work before and now it doesn't? Has anything else changed in the panel? Did the avionics shop wire the KX 155 to the Aspen PFD?
  9. I have a pitch computer for sale removed for upgrade. It is 28V.
  10. Hmm, maybe it depends. Your avionics shop should know for sure. The RS 422 data line can parallel multiple connections. It is an output only so it may depend on the input configuration of the receiving equipment. There was an issue with GTX 345 to Aspen display because of the HIGH speed configuration used by Aspen. I don't know about the GMX200 but I suspect it would require a LO speed (damn those legacy old obsolete Aspen boxes using the HIGH speed bus., makes it tough on old Garmin stuff) anyway, the weather transfers on the RS 422 line not the traffic, it comes over on the ARINC 429 line so you should be able to at least get the traffic on both.
  11. She was incredibly calm, when she acknowledged the handoff from Approach to Tower she told the controller, good day.
  12. have a look at this......
  13. here is a picture of the center wing with the spar sticking out both sides. It is a little hard to see. The yellowish green is the spar.
  14. depends on what you have now........ 1. Probably a new antenna 2. New transponder cable 3. Wiring from an existing WAAS GPS. Pull the unit and the tray, open the connector, add two wires, route to the transponder. 4. If GTX 345 has internal GPS, run antenna cable and install new GPS antenna. Cut a hole, pull side panels and route the cable. 5. Pitot/Static/altimeter check. I would say 20 hours in on the slim side.
  15. The file size is too large. Reduce the file to a few hundred Kbs and it will load right side up. one way to reduce file size is right click the picture and send to ----> mail recipient ................. I think you can figure out the rest. i.e. attach the file to the email then copy it back to the folder. It will be reduced size.
  16. Maybe you can find your way to becoming a supporter? This site has many and varied backgrounds that offer their inputs, it may not be long before you can add to the wisdom of this group. I just saw that this is my 2000th. post. Thank you MooneySpace .
  17. Check with Jaeger Aviation Inc. 205 15th Ave. NW Willmar, MN 56201 Ph. 320-444-3042 E-mail bruce@jaegeraviation.com
  18. I suspect this is close to the reason but more a factor of how long the fluid remains on the wing. Higher speeds will force the fluid aft and reduce the coverage and effectiveness.
  19. will it intercept and track a VOR signal ?
  20. Maybe you should re-read my post again....... with a little more comprehension.
  21. If you run extremely rich mixture the unburned fuel will leave a black soot residue. Running less rich to very lean burns all the fuel and only leaves the inorganic ash. That plus the excess lead and some burned oil will show as a light grayish, white residue on the exhaust pipe. Same with your spark plugs. Grayish white is better
  22. Look all of you......... lets not get in a spat over terminology. Call it what you want. The functions are almost the same. What is an HSI? the Horizontal Situation Indicator combines the DG with the CDI and a couple of other cool things. Aspen E5 has a DG with a CDI.
  23. I think you will have to go to S-tec 3100 for that
  24. great new product and a welcome addition but for right now with some limitations. Only pointing these out for those that may not be familiar...... 1. Works with GPS ONLY, no NAV connection. Only certain GPS models are approved for input. 2. Coupled IFR approaches are NOT approved. 3. Contains an internal baro altimeter that must be synced with the OEM altimeter each flight.
