  1. Russ, do you know if Garmin will support repairs on the GIA63W-01 if repairs are needed?
  2. It was the sun hitting the airplane as I was descending into the tops of the clouds.
  3. You may not think the valve is leaking but if you touch your finger on it and find your finger is damp with 100LL it’s leaking. You may not see a puddle on the floor or ramp because if it’s a slow drip it will evaporate pretty quickly and you can be sure your loosing a few gals. of fuel over a 2 week period. Installing a new valve is no big deal, you DON’T have to drain your tanks just rap a towel around your forearm, you won’t loose any more than a quart of fuel and the towel will catch any fuel running down your arm. Do not over tighten the new valve because the nut inside your tank is riveted in place and you do not want those rivets to loosen.
  4. Here’s one for ya...
  5. I have an O2 and have had to replace 3 fine wire champions in the past 21/2 yrs. that were defective. Next time around I’m going to install Tempest. As for oil filters I use Tempest.
  6. I replaced the shear coupling on my standby alt. in my O2 a couple of years ago. I replaced it with a vac. Pump shear coupling and I think I payed about $15 for 2 of them.
  7. My 1980 M20J went for 100K new with the King digital package including the kns80 and century 41 autopilot, no HSI or speed breaks.
  8. I found that the brake fluid should be totally drained and replaced with new fluid every 2 years, this seems to solve the problem.
  9. I thought I remembered a SB or AD several years ago that required that the baggage door be locked before flight and if that is fact can the baggage door be opened from the inside if needed?
  10. I got in back in July of 2017, #1035. I feel that the price of the Raptor will probably go up another 50K once in production but I would still be able to put a few bucks in my pocket after selling my Ovation and buying the Raptor. My understanding is the 2K is put into a escrow account and the only money you would lose is $60 if you want your money back. I hope we get to see the prototype fly this year.
  11. To get rid of the condensation in your fill tube you should loosen up your dipstick and pull out a couple of inches after each flight. Tighten the dipstick down once the engine cools off and this will get rid of your condensation. This may be causing a problem with condensation in the hose leading to your oil separator and clogging it up.
  12. When I had the same system installed in my 201 the mechanic installed the push pull cable in the panel under the prop control and the light next to my AI which to me made a lot of sense. I believe it is important to have the light located in close proximity to the AI because in IFR conditions this is the instrument your most looking at.
  13. I just got back from Nassau in the Bahamas and the weather is always great went last week.
  14. 30 gph on take-off works for me but I also pull the prop back to 2400 rpm shortly after I leave the runway and this seems to keep the CHTs a little cooler than leaving it at 2700 rpm.
  15. The coldest I’ve been is minus 15C at 15K and I had 175F oil temp. at 2400rpm ROP.
  16. I have a 3 blade with 310hp w/o TKS and after reading the article in AOPA about the new Ultra I tried running mine today using the same parameters as in the article. At 6500ft, WOT, 2500rpm, 50 LOP burning 14.2gal/hr I only got 175 KTAS, not even close to 183 KTAS in the article. So I think this is a little advertising BS. I have seen 197 KTAS at 5500ft. though. For the past 2 yrs. that I’ve owned the Ovation I’ve been using WOT and 2400rpm at 6500ft ROP using 16.7gal/hr and I see about 175 KTAS. I have always ran 40-50 ROP and 2400rpm, WOT at right up to 16K in level flight, I’m not much of a LOP guy but after today I may try 2500rpm, 50 LOP at higher altitudes as long as I can get the same speed using less gas and keeping the cyl. a little cooler.
  17. You can tell your insurance broker since you will have a G1000 there is an Audible alarm that says gear, gear, gear not a gear horn and also an audible stall warning that says stall, stall, stall. I wrote a letter to my broker before he went out for quotes on my Ovation an I believe it helped me. By the way it’s some lady in the G1000 that yells at you.
  18. If your bringing your clubs stop in at 7FL6 Spruce Creek Fly-In been here for 10 yrs. great place, you can also have lunch or dinner in the club house. Key West another must see. I would check the prices out at KSUA they are a bit pricey there, you may want to park at KFPR also has a good restaurant.
  19. When I had my 201 I replaced the left side cowl flap with the same one that’s used on the right with the exhaust opening and that seemed to solve the high temp problem.
  20. My O2 with the 310hp STC flat out at 5500 ft. Will do 200 kts but I normally cruise at 175 kts all day long using 2400 rpm.
  21. Andrew, I have a 2005 O2 with the 310 STC. The original owner had the STC done in 2006 and a digital EI tach was installed at that time and the reason for this I believe was that the O3 was not around yet. I had the WAAS upgrade done about a year ago and when I got it back from the avionics shop my G1000 now reads 2700 rpm a change from the original 2500 rpm so this can be done. As for the EI digital tach it is an “option “ as you can see in the 2 attachments. I took my EI digital tach out because it stopped working rather than sending it out for repair.
  22. I had clevis pins in my seat tracks when I had a 201, the Ovation uses a screw with 2 spacers an a nut.
  23. Ok I found the leak and it was my fill valve a lot cheaper than the gauge $400 instead of $2500. I bought the valve through Lasar. I checked this valve a few times and did not find it leaking, this time I had a little soap on my finger when I unscrewed the cap and covered the opening with my soapy finger I saw small bubbles.
  24. I think if I have to replace the gauge it has to be original equipment from Mooney because of the way it's mounted in my side panel by the arm rest and my interior light switches.
  25. I think I may have a leak in my oxygen gauge in my Ovation, does anyone know of a company that overhauls these gauges? I called Lasar they didn't have one so they called Mooney and got back to me with a price of $2,400 + and a 3 week lead time. The price seems outrageous and so does the 3 week lead time.
