If you are going to look around you should stop by Spruce Creek near Daytona (7FL6). Huge fly-in community and one of the largest residential air parks in the United States. Really cool place with wide range of home prices. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Coincidentally, after 30 years of flying last week I forgot to lock the gas cap. I was distracted by the two airplanes behind me waiting to refuel in the self-serve and simply did not check. Shortly after takeoff I look out the left wing and see the gas cap precariously moving and thought it would surely depart. Came back around and landed and thankfully the cap was still there. BTW, I carry a spare gas cap and though for sure this would be the day I need it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

We need to get Oscar to a Mooney Summit so he can give a talk on international flying (Central and South America). Would like to do that some day but would have to do some serious research before attempting it. At least I’m fluent in Spanish so that should help, but I don’t know any of the ATC lingo in Spanish so probably a few hours listening to live ATC from Central/South American would help. I know all the air traffic controllers should know English but not sure you can count on that. I think I even listened to one of Oscar’s videos once and the controller was speaking to one pilot in English and to everyone else in Spanish so situational awareness for the English speaking pilot was probably not that great. How to “Use” Brittain Autopilot
Hector replied to Nukemzzz's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Really don’t know if it is approved for approaches or not but have used it as an aid many times. I don’t have a B-5, I just have the accutrack with no altitude hold (also have a brand new Accuflite with the DG with heading bug that I never installed). I set the CDI in my GPS to .3 NM fulls scale deflection of the CDI by default at all times (this is a setting in your GPS) and set the accutrack to high sensitivity. Using these settings the accutrack sticks to the magenta line like its on rails during all phases of flight, including approaches ( I rarely see lateral deviations of more than .1NM during flight as the accutrack is constantly correcting). Most of the time I only have to make small adjustments with the throttle to make sure I stay on glide path and the accutrack will take me to the numbers. If your GPS does not have the ability to do turn anticipation then use the turn knob in the a accutrack to turn to the new course before reaching the waypoint where a turn is required. I too am waiting for the TrueTrak or even the Garmin AP for my 67C when approved, however, I’m not in any hurry as my accutrack works quite well, has been very reliable, and I have learned how it works well enough to that I know how to test and fix most issues. Baggage compartment lock cylinder
Hector replied to Seagrove Bob's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I assume you have to take the door apart to install the new locks? Asking because the door lock in my plane does not work so probably need to change it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Very sad. An icon in our Mooney community. Vaya con Dios Bob. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I disassembled my aileron servos and the o rings came apart. I put them back together without the o rings and they have been working fine for the last 9 months. I was only trying to make them last until the TrueTrack AP came out but at the pace that is going I’m hoping they last a while longer Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

A reason to avoid dynamic propeller balancing?
Hector replied to Pasturepilot's topic in General Mooney Talk
I used to think my C was just normal. Then I had the prob balanced and was much happier with the new normal. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Wish I could tell you but took the kit from Airtex and the seats to my local upholstery shop that also happens to be FAA certified and they put it all together in a few hours (front and rear seat). It comes with instructions but I just didn’t want to mess with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice headrests!! Mine have the high backs but the headrest would be nicer. Looks like your color scheme is very similar or same as mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A reason to avoid dynamic propeller balancing?
Hector replied to Pasturepilot's topic in General Mooney Talk
Do you think your engine (not to mention your avionics, passengers, etc) will be happy with more or less vibration? Get your prop balanced. I do it every 2-3 years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Brittain service bulletin #004
Hector replied to Matt Ward's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Check the electrical tape on the servo boot closely. You can remove the old electrical tape that is no longer providing a good seal and retape the servo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Jaeger’s web site has detailed written procedure on how to refurbished the plastic interior. Mine was in poor shape with even chunks missing in places. I removed all the interior plastic and refurbished it completely and made it look like new. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Let's talk about baggage area and back seat organization
Hector replied to hmasing's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I carry a small mechanics tool bag with essential tools and a few parts such as a couple of spare spark plug. In the bag are also travel chocks, fuel dip stick, fuel sampler. I store this tool bag and my travel cover in the hat rack. Also in the hat rack are a few microfiber towels, a can of pledge to clean the windscreen, and a quart of oil. In the luggage area I carry the tow bar and whatever luggage I’m carrying for overnight travel. Flight bag and spare headset in rear seat. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Hector replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I’m looking at the same setup for my C. I don’t see why it should not work. TT is compatible with every other Garmin GPS. My hangar neighbor has a GTN750 with a TT in his Cessna. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Old and New: VOR v. GPS, XMWX v. ADS-B

The concord in my C is 5 years old. I see no sign that it needs replacement Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Hector replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
We really do need to be better about that. We have folks here that are for or against Just about every aviation product or manufacturer. We all have our biases but if our first instinct when one of these reps visits Mooneyspace is to tell them why they suck then don’t expect many or any of them to stick around and share information. Even if I don’t particularly like a brand I’m going to give that rep a pass because others here may need information he has. That being said, obviously we all need to share our opinion about these products and be brutally honest about it, but that is something we can share with each other without attacking the reps. Emergency Landing | Baggage Door Blow Off Mid Flight | Model K
Hector replied to RedSkyFlyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Wow! I’ve heard of the luggage door opening inflight on several occasions, but I have not seen/heard of one hitting the stabilator and actually getting lodged in the stab. Good job getting down safely. Would like to hear more about the controllability of the aircraft from the time the incident begins. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Realistic options for two-axis autopilot
Hector replied to fr8dog62's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Several out there installing TT for 7500-8000 all in. Unfortunately not approved yet for Mooney’s. I’m holding off for a while and see if TT finally gets approved. I helped install one in a Cherokee and it was very simple. Knocked it out in 3 days with well written instructions Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
You prove my point once again. Yes we are all contemplating the consequences of this pandemic. I will not even disagree with those that believe the damage to the economy is as bad or worse than the disease. Some of us are fortunate to still have jobs while there are millions now that are wondering how to put food on the table for their families. Why I don’t get is folks like you that ridicule those than want to wear a mask and have now politicized the wearing of a mask as an intrusion on our liberty. Once you get to this point you are no longer having a discussion about the pertinent issues here, it just becomes an irrational discussion with someone who is just irrational. Enough said. Don’t know why folks keep trying to convince you that you are wrong. They are wasting their time because there is simply no amount of evidence that will convince you this is a real disease that has already killed nearly 100k Americans. Your believe system is locked with your political views and everything else is just fake news. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
