Since I ditched paper charts I do use Foreflight on both an IPad mini and my iPhone 5 as backup. I have found the GPS on the IPad/IPhone to be unreliable at times so I currently use a Bluetooth Bad Elf Pro GPS. What I like about this particular GPS is the fact that it can connect via Bluetooth with up to 5 devices so it will drive both the iPad and iPhone simultaneously with room to spare. Here is my setup. It works well for me and from my sitting position it does not block any instruments. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

It is important to determine your continuous power requirements vs intermittent loading. Below is a load chart for my M20C. My continuous power requirement is at near 50% of my 50 amp generator capacity. With EVERYTHING on I'm getting close to full rated capacity. I'm thinking about LED lights as well for the interim, with an alternator conversion down the road. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Fairly new Mooney owner (M20C), but I find myself cruising between 7.5 and 9.5 mostly. Nice compromise between speed and fuel economy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Not sure about the price. I'll let others comment on that, but make sure you fully understand damage and repairs associated with that hard landing. If it bent the gear what did it do to the attach structure in the wing. Any repairs there? Look for all the 337s, not just the ones the owner shows you but all that are on file with the FAA. At a minimum, I would do an annual in conjunction with the purchase (it's what I did) so you fully understand the condition of the aircraft. Then you will be in a better position to discuss fair price Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I'm in. Have not been there for many years but I recall it being a nice place to spend a day and they had some nice seafood restaurants. I went to school in Gainesville (boy that was a long time ago) but remember taking some dates there too. I was broke then but man would I like to have the youth and vigor of my college days Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Unfortunately it hunts quite a bit. It will roll left for around 10 degree heading change and immediately role right an so on. Definitely not usable. Went up today and turned off the GPS and tried to track on the KX-170B and it would hunt. Did the opposite and turned off the KX-170 and tried to track on the GPS with same results. Both boxes are feeding the KI-209 indicator which in turn feeds the AP. If I don't find an issue with the grounding, I'm going to bypass the KI-209 and hook up the GPS directly to the AP. Another good point to check. I don't know if the ground for the 3 boxes is common and perhaps one of them may not be grounded properly. I'll add that to the troubleshooting list. Thanks!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

On board as well. The spamming is getting ridiculous and I guarantee you it will get much worse. I'm all for some sort of verification or small fee to stop it Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Yes I have a panel mounted GPS (GX60) driving a KI-209 and the output from the KI-209A feeds the Accutrak AP. One of my potential troubleshooting paths is to de-pin the AP from the KI-209A and route the GX60 AP outputs directly to the Accutrack AP. I was going to do the same for the KX-170B and bypass the KI-209A altogether. By doing this I would eventually figure out which box is the source of the problem. The only reason I wanted to try the Garmin 496 first was as a quick verification that the AP (isolated from the other 3 boxes) is working fine. I do not intend to make the Garmin my final solution, but before I start to do a lot of other troubleshooting it would be nice to hook up the Garmin and show that it all works. It doesn't look like it will be that simple if I need another box between the Garmin and the AP. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Thanks N601RX, I don't remember reading anything about a gain adjustment. I'll have to look that up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I have a 67 M20C with a working PC system but my Accutrack hunts left and right constantly. Servos and computer were sent to Brittain and checked good, so I think I'm getting a stray voltage from one of my other boxes. The other 'boxes' are an Apollo GX60 IFR certified GPS, and a KX-170B both slaved to a KI-209A. The KI-209A is actually driving the Accutrak. Before i start troubleshooting to see which of these 3 boxes is causing the problem i wanted to try something rather simple to rule out any problems with Accutrack. I want to disconnect the Accutrack from existing boxes and connect it directly to my dock mounted Garmin 496 and verify that it works correctly. My question is does anyone have a Garmin 496 driving their Accutrak AP? I'm thinking I should be able to purchase a power/data cable for the 496 and connect the data out pin to the Accutrak. Just need to know if any of you have done this before I try it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Change name of "How-To Videos" forum
Hector replied to Joe Zuffoletto's topic in Bug Reports & Suggestions
Agree also. New to this forum and also new Mooney owner. When I saw this section I was really hopping to see HOW-TO videos of folks doing routine maintenance tasks. Not at all what I expected. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -

Need powertow (or similar) for Mooney
Hector replied to Parker_Woodruff's topic in General Mooney Talk
This is what I use since my hanger is also slightly up hill and is hard to push my plane into place. I bolted a $99 electric hoist (see picture) to the back of the T-hanger and extended the length of the switch with an extension cord. Now I just hook the hoist to the tail ring and use the tow bar only to steer. Tow bar on left hand and switch on right hand and I ease her back into place as easy as pie. I was just down there a couple of weeks ago. Took a buddy of mine to pick up a twin Comanche he purchased from Bill. I saw this Mooney first hand and it is VERY NICE inside and out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I learned to fly right after high school. Then off to college, career, wife and kids, and unfortunately flying took a back seat when the kids came. I always loved flying and knew that eventually I would get back to it. Well, I got back to it six months ago. Got current again, and then I had the opportunity to pick up N2976L, a very nice M20C that had been well taken care of. I purchased her about a month ago and my son and I are enjoying every minute we spend flying the Mooney. He is a senior in high school and has a bad case of the flying bug. I was lucky to find a CFI in my home field that has an M20E for his personal airplane and was kind enough to provide Mooney specific instruction including the manual retraction gear. I had flown N2976L with the previous owner on business trips and was familiar with the aircraft, but now I look forward to passing the love of flying and airplanes to my son and daughter. I'm enjoying it immensely. Mechanically (airframe and power plant) it is in great shape. Interior is also pretty good with solid IFR. The exterior paint is showing its age and although it is still good I'm planing on a paint job sometime in the near future. A GPS upgrade is also in the picture at some point. I'm sure there eventually will be a mount for the mini that swivels. The mount shown in the picture is the only iPad mini mount I could find at the moment. I played with the orientation and I think I like it as shown in the picture best. From the pilots eye level it does not obscure any instruments including my second attitude indicator on the lower right side. If I locate it directly in the center of the yoke it has to clear the clock and it sits higher and it does obstruct some of the switches along the bottom ( if you are taller than 5'10 you may be ok). Anyway, I'm still playing with and will try it like this for a while. I do love the mini, and it works much better than regular sized iPad in the cockpit simply because it is the ideal size Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

New Mooney owner reporting. Just purchased a 1967 M20C that had been exceptionally maintained. Love the airplane, and she flies great. Looking forward to learning from this group. Did a lot of research before purchasing this particular Mooney including a very thorough annual. She is absolutely free of corrosion and the previous owner was meticulous about maintenance as I intend to be as well. She is currently in my hanger at Craig Muni (KCRG). Hope to meet some of you in the near future. Hector Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
