Voltage regulator wanted for an '87 M20K 252 w. dual alternators

Recommended Posts

Our lovely M20K 252 is grounded due to a defective voltage regulator. This plane is equipped with dual altn. so it's a different unit than fitted on the single altn mooners. Maintenance says it can't be reconditioned/overhauled so their browsing their contacts for a new one, but it seems very hard to find. I've you have a good servicable part and are willing to ship to Europe please mail me at m.perlot (at) planet.nl

They absolutely can be repaired. Your mechanic must be used to working on Bonanzas or Cirrus. You either have (2) ElectroDelta VR802 or (1)Mooney 800270-503(this has two connectors). When one of my VRs went south, I chose to replace both with the single box, giving more room behind the panel. I will check my logbook to get the name of the company that repaired  and yellow tagged my unit.

Does it sound like something is loose inside? Maxwell fixed ours when it quit working. I was hesitant to open it due to the rivets on the case. We had ordered a new one (-503)from Mooney ($1800) at the time. We ended up waiting 3mo for the mooney one to show up, then Don was able to fix ours so we cancled the mooney order. No one had a used one here in the states, I called about 38 places. I didn't mind, but Don can't issue a 8130 for it... Don't know how that effects you in Europe. Silly VR design if you ask me...

Best,

Matt

I just went through this.  For years.  Anyway, the 1987 M20K can't use a different VR that is equal or better like pre-1980 Mooneys.  I finally managed to swap out my VR with a refurbished version with Don Maxwell.  I'd give him a call.

Thanks a bunch for all your replies. Just had a call from my tech, he said he can source a unit for $ 3.200,00  . He'll be giving Consolidated Aircraft Supply a call as wel. I do need a dual release for the part to be fitted to a Dutch registered Mooney. If Don Maxwell can supply the paperwork, that would be great.
