jimluper Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 My A&I says its time for a new alternator and I want to buy one from a good company with a reputation for building good units that last. Plane-Power talks some good talk but does anyone know if their units are built to last. Also if not Plane-Power whose alternator would you use. Thanks Quote
Ned Gravel Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 I do not have any evidence available about how long they last, but I do trust my AME (ya'll call them A&P) and he recommended the Plane Power alternator conversion for my E model (convert from generator to alternator). It is what I have now and I like it. Quote
FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Just installed a Plane Power Alternator in my K. A+++++++++ Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Do you already have an an alternator on your E? I presume so, but many still have generators. I've had a PP on my J for almost 3 years now and am happy with it. I have a relatively new Kelly overhauled alternator for sale too if you want to save some money. Quote
Seth Posted June 16, 2013 Report Posted June 16, 2013 I've heard of multiple pilots happy with Plane Power Alternators but have no personal experience. Quote
jholltank Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 what's the price tag for the PP alternators? Quote
Mooneymite Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 Does anyone ever overhaul alternators any more? Quote
carusoam Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 I had a generator overhauled on my C. Then replaced it with an OH'd unit from Spruce... New vs. factory reman vs. OH... Vs. your requirements. Since half the cost is the installation and documentation, doing it once with the minimum risk of having to do it again probably drives the decision process towards buying a new one. Starters are in a similar decision tree. Best regards, -a- Quote
stevesm20b Posted June 20, 2013 Report Posted June 20, 2013 I installed the Plane Power Gen to alt conversion two years ago and am happy with it. No problems so far. Quote
