SOLD!----Garmin 480 WAAS GPS for sale w/antenna

Can a 480 and 430 crossfill to each other?

Certainly not from the 480 to the 430 - the 430 is too stupid to know what an airway is.  I've heard that it might be possible the other way, but don't have the wire installed to try it, and with having to get the 480 swapped out soon, will not be getting it put in

If there's anyone out there considering a 430 WAAS, I've used the 480 GNS and the 430 WAAS--the 480 is much more easy to use and provides Airway feed to PFD's, also has the NRST button on the panel that provides instant info on it, freq memory...gobs of features that are quicker to access than the tiered 430/530 architecture . Although IMO the price is a little high for ANYTHING that old...it's probably negotiable though.

I am on the market to acquire either a 430W or 480 to put in my Mooney. Several told me a few years ago that they would drop in price when the new series come about however I am still waiting and have not seen any significant drop. My budget is limited enough that I am now considering just adding conventional equipement to make my bird legal for IFR in Canada (rules are different here, you need a backup unit absolutely).

I use/love my CNX80, and would like to have the 480 as a backup, but considering the lack of support from Garmin, the 6 AMUs is too steep for me.  As smart as the unit is, even half that price is a gamble.  If the unit goes TU, not sure anything can be done for it.  It's the same reason I couldn't justfy the money people are asking for 430W and 530W units they are selling when they do their panel upgrades.  I've already been burned by Garmin's lack of support when my MX20 died.  No help/available service from Garmin.  Obsolete Garmin units are great as long as they work, but the lack or factory support for them devalues them enough to make them a huge gamble.
