Assuming you mean, isn't it the Insurance company that handles moving the plane.

Short answer - no

it is all up to the owner from the time you find yourself sitting on a runway to getting it fixed.

Got it.  I thought if they could get it cheaper, they would take care of moving it.  Learned something new.

Whats wrong with dialing the crank flange, sticking a prop on it, and ferrying it to another airport on a ferry permit? This is done all the time.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to total it. The buy back and fix it required more investment from me than makes sense right now. I have given instructions too the adjuster to arrange for total loss. Doesn't feel good but the compromises i was looking at on repair didn't either. It was an objective decision that doesn't feel very good. But I will buy another plane....probably a J or ? if I can find something at 100k or less...if I can get past a potential 709 ride....get insurance after the gear up that doesn't make me rethink flying, take that long overdue IR checkride I am supposedly ready for, work schedule allowing. I am in Austin this week looking at houses, including one at an airpark, as we plan to move back to Austin this summer. Tomorrow my daughter goes in to deliver twins...my 2nd and 3rd grandkids. I think I am going through one of those growing moments...too much stuff going on.

Tony -- sorry to hear about this path you are looking to take. I always thought insurance would have covered all aspects of getting the plane repaired. To think you could get saddled with recovery and movement costs to get it repaired makes me wonder what we do get for the money we pay for insurance. Based on your comments, it sounds like your accident was more involved. It also sounds like your life is pretty busy and complicated now as well. You obviously need to make a decision and not any easy one. The problem with flying is that it gets in your blood and clouds your thinking. I would evaluate carefully where flying fits into your life today and approach it from that angle. At a minimum, even if you don't immediately go back into active flying or ownership, you will want to resolve your license status. If you leave that unresolved, it will be difficult to it get back after you are away from it a while. Good luck and we're here to support you regardless of which direction you take.

Tip on that, try to switch FSDO's for the 709 ride. Usually the inspector that wants to give the ride is the same one who investigated the incident and opened the investigation. Wonder why.  IDK about you guys, but with an agenda like that, I'd want someone else.

I'm sorry to hear of both developments... I hate to see a good plane get totaled when it should be easily fixable.  Perhaps someone will bid for it with the intent to put her back together, hopefully above-board.

I would cash the money and rent Cessnas for a little while...when things are settled then I would shop for an aircraft.
