MooneyMitch Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Anybody watch 16 Right lately? What a great movie! This is not only a great movie about Van Nuys Airport [busiest GA airport worldwide] but a truly fine documentary for General Aviation. Van Nuys Airport played a key role in aviation for me. A dear family friend used to fly from Orange County Meadowlark Field [now gone!] to Van Nuys in his 1952 Cessna 170 [attached photo], pick me up and we'd fly all over Southern California [circa 1962-1963]. The now defunct Sky Trails Restaurant was our meeting point. My first cross country in my first airplane [Cessna 175] was into Van Nuys Airport! Great memories, great movie!! Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Great movie, indeed. The guy behind it is making another one, that I believe is due out this year and I'm sure it will be outstanding. A piece of somewhat related trivia...he appears to be "in a relationship" with Jennie Mitchell, of Mooney sales/marketing fame. Quote
mooneygirl Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Seriously, who is the fellow that made the movie?? Inquiring minds want to know. Quote
mooneygirl Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Yes, our beautiful Jennie's Facebook profile does say she is in relationship with Brian Terwilliger. They make a handsome couple! Quote
carusoam Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 16 Right is an excellent aviation documentary. I think it was Brian T's first attempt at significant commercial work. He must have put everything he had into it. If you have not seen it, It is better than 90% of anything coming out of Hollywood. Grab the kids, significant other and Fire up the home theater for movie night. It's hard to explain why I liked it. I'm guessing the topic was dead center of many of my interests. I had a showing on the big TV in HD (new technology in its day) for my aviaition buds when it was first released. If you see only one movie this year.....Well, you should get out more often... flight2000 Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 16 Left is also an interesting watch. It includes extra footage and more interviews from the crew, making of 16 Right, etc... I got both DVD copies from Amazon. Figured I could support the cause and hope that he makes some more down the road. Brian Quote
mooneygirl Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 We just had movie night at our Santa Maria EAA Chapter, and watched 16R. We all brought popcorn and pizza, and had a great time. Santa Maria is where the movie the Rocketeer was filmed. So we watched in our Museum of Flight, which was a part of the set for the movie. The sets were going to be destroyed, but they donated the building to the airport, and it is now a functioning, and lovely museum. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 LOve 16 Right. Another good show with a strong aviation theme is "R5 Sons Alaska" on RFD TV. Bruce Lundqusit recommended it on one of his blogs and I've been DVRing ever since. Quote

HopePilot Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 The pilots at KVNY are sexier, smarter, and just downright...oh never mind. Quote
