Alan Fox Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 Crawling over the injured passenger may be difficult, 'smiles. Just roll him out onto the wing!!!! You wont even have to unbuckle him!!!!! Quote
wishboneash Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 In most crashes, the front of the plane impacts something first, people are thrown forward into the panel/firewall. How does a seat back failure affect the outcome of this crash? I can see a good reason to put this seat to the passenger side to avoid controllability issue in case of the seat back giving out. Unless we are talking about a situation like the Air France tail slide stall. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I don't think welding is the best repair method for a few reasons, but it has to be better then it has been for a long time. I have to say that a seat back attach failure would be more of an annoyance then a safety issue. I had the bolt fall out of mine once while flying. The previous owner had put in the wrong hardware. It was no big deal, you just have to cuss under your breath and shift your weight to the other side till you get home. Quote
RJBrown Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I see no reason not to use the seat on the right. I think someone is just picking a fight for the sake of a fight. Seats flop forward normally. A passenger seat that flops back is harmless. Though I think the repair is a good one and will not give any problems at all. Moving it to the right is just for an extra bit of peace of mind. N7495 I tried to be polite but you make it so hard. Quote

I had shift my weight slightly to get some support since the other side was still OK. It's an annoyance more than anything else. There are bigger things to worry about in a single-engine aircraft. duke Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I would install a doubler after the weld job. Poses no risk to safety on rt side. The onley time it would be a safety issue is if it were on pilot side and broke as you were landing or pushing hard on the yoke in a go around situation. Quote
