Anyone know the part number for the gasket that is on the airbox,  where the fuel servo mounts onto?  I checked the parts catalog and could not find it.  Mine had a cardboard-like gasket with no part number on it.  I have an 83 M20J with IO-360A3B6.

Thanks,

Is this what you are after?

Note, only 1 gasket is needed for the A3B6D as there is no spacer (item 2)

Parts catalog does show a gasket between the air induction assembly and the flange assembly or between the flange assembly and the servo. Probably someone made a gasket on yours.

@PT20J which page did you find it on? It’s not shown in the IPC for my MSE. I know there is a gasket between the servo and the manifold, but I can’t find one shown between the servo and airbox.

You are looking in the Mooney manual, @PT20J was showing the engine manual.

Yes I know, the engine manual shows one between the servo and intake manifold, I’m looking for a reference for a gasket between the airbox and servo, which would be in the Mooney manual. Can’t seem to find one pictured or described.

Oh, sorry

No problem. I’m just trying to see if there is supposed to be one there, I can’t recall if my plane ever had one, I’ll need to look next time I have the cowl off.

Edit: If it’s not supposed to have one, would installing one be such a bad idea? The two surfaces are pretty flat machined, so maybe it’s not required, but surely it couldn’t hurt?

I agree it seems to be an oversight that the gasket on the forward side of the fuel servo is not mentioned in the M20J IPC (even though it's drawn on the diagram at 76-00-01) nor in the IO-360-A IPC. Here's what I've found when I've gone looking:

PN 77504 gets used with the RSA-5AD1 fuel injector on the forward side between it and the air box, at least as documented in some IO-360 IPCs (but not ours). The IO-360-P1A, IO-360-N1A, and IO-360-M1A IPCs show the same fuel injector we use (RSA-5AD1) and specify gasket 77504. The latter includes the note "Install between the fuel injector and the airframe air box". Of course those are not IPCs for our engines, but it's a pretty close reference since they use the same fuel injector.

Even the IO-390-A IPC shows gasket 77504 in front of the RSA-5AD1, and that engine can actually go on our airplanes (with an STC from Lycoming).

Our engine IPC was last revised in 1995, compared to all of the others mentioned above which are much newer; perhaps Lycoming noticed the oversight and saw fit to start mentioning it at some point? It would sure be nice to have direct documentation associated with our specific engines and/or airframes.

Edit to correct the diagram reference in the Mooney IPC.

No, I got that one figured out.  It's what the other guys are mentioning.  In front of servo to back of air box.

I just replaced that on my engine after R&R some cylinders that required airbox removal.  It was PITA to find the part number, but my guy at Airparts Company in Wichita was able to find the correct number.  Unfortunately I did not write it down....  I too found it missing in my IPC and consider it important to keep any unfiltered air from getting sucked into the system.

You would not believe what Cessna wanted for the carb to Airbox gasket

We include with baffle seal for the 182 models

Made from scrap from valve cover gasket

ams3320-.062

Need it made ?

send the old and in two days it will be duplicated

Die is shown

Here it is shown in the airframe IPC without any other information.

This drawing is for the control installation. The drawing @Slick Nick posted is the correct drawing for the induction system installation. The gasket shown on the control installation drawing is likely an error, but the fact that it does not have a reference number indicates that it is not part of this drawing. The purpose of the drawings in the IPC is to identify parts; they are representational and not actual assembly drawings. I don't recall there being any gasket there when we replaced my engine. But, as always, if there is any question, contact Frank Crawford at the factory because he has access to the actual manufacturing and assembly drawings.

I would be very careful about adding a gasket that has any significant thickness. The clearance between the cowling and the lower metal air baffle is minimal and if the baffle is pushed forward it can damage the fiberglass cowling.

.032 or .062

it won't matter

If your in the seal or gasket business tell me more ?

There should be no metal on metal on surfaces .

The tio541 oil pan gasket was no stock

two days later , due was made

377.50 each

24 shipped per customer

ams3320.093

We can die cut over 1k gaskets per hour and sold over 16k valve cover gaskets with never a return or failure.

the key is the material
