mooneyflyer Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 I’m putting a presentation together and would love your input. I’m looking for nuggets of value about Mooney’s on flying, safety, maintenance etc. These are things any owner can do and would love to have. Simple bits of knowledge and ideas Any input is appreciated Phil 1
MikeOH Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 Off the top of my head, and in no particular order: Pair of vise grips in the seat back in case door handle breaks. Tinted cling-film for window shades. Use zip-lock plastic bag around filter when unscrewing; low-cost, drip free/no-mess solution for horizontal mount filter change LASAER tie-down/jack-points vs. factory tie down rings Vividia borescope camera; keep an eye on your valves and cylinders Wide painter's tape to cover fuel caps when tied-down outside (yeah, properly maintained O-rings shouldn't leak) First-Aid kit PLB (maybe you make it, but the plane doesn't? "If you aren't wearing it, it's luggage" principle) Piddle-packs (for those times when landing just isn't an option) Bottled water (otherwise, why would you need the piddle-packs?) Tire pressure gauge with 'hold' function Spark plug tools - socket, copper washers, torque wrench, gapping gauge and tool, thread sealant, cleaning picks, media blaster (if you believe in that) Handheld DVM (multimeter) Phillips screwdriver (for Cam-lock/Dzus), credit-card (for everything else)
Parker_Woodruff Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 What's the presentation for? Maybe I can help...flown several Mooneys and insured many more... 1

carusoam Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 (edited) My favorite question… 1) get a MooneySpace membership… 2) read often… 3) make friends by claiming your Mooney is faster than Marauder’s… 4) attend a few Mooney fly ins to see who fell for your bold claims about your ship’s speed… 5) search for things you already know the answer to… and find the stuff you thought you knew better… 6) post pics of your part of the Mooney world… 7) get a copy of your ship’s maintenance and the parts manual… 8) get trained…. Mooney specific training… consider the PPP. (Find your Mooney CFI at the MooneyFlyer) Phil, add your website here) 9) remember… new pilots tend to… - fly VFR into IMC - run out of gas experienced pilots - fly into thunderstorms - fly into icing conditions these experiences should be actively avoided, no matter what your experience level is. 10) new ownership of old machines comes with plenty of surprises… use the Ronald Reagan theory of working with something that can kill you… Trust, but verify everything… 11) update your W&B… PP thoughts only, not a CFI… or mechanic. Best regards, -a- Edited June 30 by carusoam 2 2
Fritz1 Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 B-cool or arctic air ice box, little John pee bottle, when you have an appointment on Monday fly there on Sunday, always leave yourself at least one way out, when it does not look right, don't fly, tomorrow is another day,
toto Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Definitely not a Mooney tidbit, but a tidbit ….. Rental car bookings almost always have free cancellation, and there are zero consequences if you don’t show up. If I’m flying in weather that might necessitate a diversion or delay, I’ll book two or three rental cars along the route, and cancel them as soon as I have reached that point in the trip. Having the bookings reduces the “what am I going to do” stress, and costs literally nothing. 3

Old wives tales (difficult to land, cockpit is too small, etc). Address maintenance issues (fuel tanks, dual mag, no back spring, etc). Explain the performance of the Mooney in sped and efficiency. Basically tell the audience what is unique about the Mooney (good and bad). lee
