While on a IFR flight in my Ovation and in IMC, both the 750 and 650 quit transmitting. I then had alot of static from both radios. I ended up squaking 7600. After trying turning one radio off at a time that was no help. Then I thought it might be the internal audio panel. After pulling the circuit breaker for the audio panel I finally got the 650 working. The rest of the flight was without further incident.

The next day I checked the radios. The pilot headset was dead. I could key but no audio. My mechanic started checking everything. He pulled the pilot's side interior side panel. All of the connectors looked fine. After tracing the wiring he found a connector. When he opened the connector it was filled with corrosion. After a careful cleaning, everything started to work perfectly. This connector is part of the factory original wiring.

It is hard to imagine that is corrosion, those pins are gold plated and I don't see any pitting in the pins that would indicate corrosion below the gold. I suspect someone sprayed some stuff on that connector in the past and the stuff reacted with moisture and made that goo. Cleaning them was your best option. Those pins don't need any lube or any other stuff to work properly.

I agree with @N201MKTurbo. Spraying stuff into electrical components (switches, connectors) seems to be a favorite shade tree mechanic trick. The connectors are designed to be assembled dry. Switch contacts are designed to be self wiping and have plating that is resistant to oxidation unless it is worn out. Also, many switches and relays are sealed so you can't get sprays to the contacts anyway.
