Hello @hubcap!

I flew my plane home from annual today. Your 2400 rpm setting (which I never used before, always opting for 2450 and higher) seemed to be the magic sauce! I was at 9000 feet and I set 2400 rpm, 28 inches mp and rolled back the mixture to 11.6 gallons an hour. All cylinders were well below 380 degrees and TIT was 1578. I was delighted to see 161 kts true, with a stronger oil pressure and temperature. I normally have to burn 12.5 or higher to achieve 161 kts, and my oil pressure straddles the yellow/green dividing line. Today solidly in the green.

My wife and I are flying to Lake of the Ozarks from our home in Ennis, Texas tomorrow. I will have 400 miles to experiment further.

Thank you so much for the heads up on the 2400 rpm tip! Maybe that is exactly why Continental recommends no more than 2400 max continuous??? Sure wish that made it into the POH.

I have learned a lot from the folks here at MooneySpace. I am happy that I was able to pass along a little bit of information that was useful to you!

What MP are you running at 57%? what is your CHT’s? Because that is 8.8 gal/hr which is low power. To get tit that high you would have to be shoving alot of air slowing down the wave front or 1 or 2 cylinders are not matched close enough in your gami spread and are dumping the exhaust when the combustion is still going on into the exhaust manifold.  If your cht’s are low try going more toward peak egt (less lop) and you should see egt’s go down as cht’s rise.

MP is around 29 IIRC and hottest CHT is around 340....I set FF at about 9 gph when running LOP. I have Gami's and the spread is pretty tight....tight enough that when I keep leaning, all the cylinders "wink" out around the same point. I run 2500 RPM which is where the prop is supposed to be most efficient...I will give it a try

I run 25” 2500rpm and 10gph and that puts me at 1550 tit. Running a gallon less and 4” more you are more  LOP than me. My CHT’s are 370 in the summer and cooler in the winter. Your CHT’s at 340 is quite cool that maybe because some of your combustion is still going on when the exhaust valve starts opening. If i was running that far LOP i would be slowing down the RPM’s to like 2300 giving more time for the combustion to finish. Or if you want to stay 2500 go closer to peak egt i. E. Less deep lop to speed up the combustion process.
