After exiting co-ownership in Fall of 2021 (Missile)  I am now the sole owner of a modified 1965 M20E.  Just returned from Dakotas with her after commercial flight(s) today.  Owner and I traded a lot of information before purchase was completed.  He installed a low time engine that had been majored to new by Lycomming.  Upgrades are extensive (completed in early 1990's and include:

-J cowl

-SW Texas aviation speed slope windshield

-Wing tip fairings with strobes

-Flap gap seals

-Late J dorsal enclosure

-GDL 82 ADSB & Aspen on an otherwise basice panel with eight pack pilot panel

Flew great and fast dodging boiler build ups on a 3.5 hour flight.  Really happy to be owning a Mooney again.  Perfect for my wife and I for next ten years as custodians.  Looking forward to the journey.  Scott

Panel is modest.  Not worthy of pics.  Interior is tidy (platic in good shape), but no Multiple color leather seats like Missile.  She is not fancy, but hopefully she is here to serve without "too much" drama.  LoL :)

If that E was based in the Dakotas any length of time, it was either maintained at one time and/or sold by the Pietsch family in Minot ND. They started a Mooney dealership in 1956 and I think some of the family still works on Mooneys to this day. I used to live in Grand Forks, ND.

@Echo Congratulations.  Enjoy your new plane.  Just out of curiosity, what's under the red cover?

A 911 Greg. :)

Ha! I have a 914 that I love to drive in the summertime. Mooneys + Porsches, go together well.

Curious, what kind of TAS did you get and for what power settings? To compare to my mostly unmodified E.

I think that Mooneys and M3s go together better.  Both have a reasonable back seat and luggage (trunk) space.  The 911 has neither. :D

I had overhead vent open, (forgot to close as Missile had dorsal ram air) and seller didn’t wash so bugs on airframe. Climbed to 8k and build ups saw me climbing ultimately to 9500. When I was level with a push I was at 2500rpm and full throttle. Leaning just rich from rough (no fuel flow installed yet). I saw speed from 190-200mph (flight aware).  Was a fun flight for maiden voyage. Had me NOT missing Missile. :)

I had a three blade Mac on my 1966 E model. The two blade is way smoother. I had some weird harmonics that were fatiguing with three blade. This engine and prop combo rock. :)

Well, but what was the tailwind? I never saw TAS anywhere near that. Best I could do was about 148-149 kts (171 mph).

What wax (and what washing soap) do you use? Looks nice.
