Mcstealth Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Hey folks. I know this is an easy answer for somebody, just not me. Quote
Shadrach Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Looks like a Cessna 120 to me. The 120 looks just like the above mentioned 140 except for the omission of flaps. I can’t tell for sure if the wings have flaps from the image but it does not look like they do. Quote

There have been conversions and mix-matches, though, so who knows. Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 It is a Cessna 170. Just like my 56 172 but with a tail wheel. It has a 6 cylinder Continental 0-300 engine. 2 Quote
BDPetersen Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 As they said in college, “intuitively obvious to the casual observer”. A 170A. 1 Quote
BDPetersen Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Hmmm. Looks like my carefully organized hangar. 1 Quote

It looks diminutive for a 170. 1 Quote

I didn't think 170s ever had those double struts, but I guess the early ones did. 1 Quote

When I rented 172s I was happy to fly the only O300 bird in the fleet even though it had a little less power than the O320 Lycs…it was sewing machine smooth. Quote
BDPetersen Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Rag wing (170A) needs 2 struts. 1 1 Quote

I'm sure it would run fine on pump gas with ethanol. The Peterson STC does specify ethanol free gasoline. The fuel system is all aluminum except the hose from the firewall to the carb. I'm sure it would be fine. Quote

N231BN Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 This is metal wing, with the two struts. So that is an A model? It's a metalized rag-wing, straight 170. Metal wings don't need two struts due to the torsional strength provided by stringers and metal skins. 4 Quote
BDPetersen Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 Duh. Of course you’re right. The “A” was the second iteration, not the first. The engines were the C145 which I’ve never known the exact difference from the O-300. Lots of time in the 170B. Doesn’t get much better than that, especially with the O-360 conversion ( except 4 cylinders just don’t sound right). Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 My research says it is mostly a name change. Originally, the C145 had a different cam and lifters, but if any of them have been overhauled in the last 50 years, they are likely all the same now. Quote
Guest Posted October 9, 2022 Report Posted October 9, 2022 What’s the engine on the floor under the right wing? Quote
