gmonnig Posted May 2, 2022 Report Posted May 2, 2022 I recently sold my Comanche 250 and have purchased a nice 1965 M20E. I noticed something unusual with the flap stop on the pilot side and it doesn’t look like my friends C model. It barely makes contact with the hex head 10/32” bolt. I believe when the plane was painted in 2018 the flap hinge assembly was installed on the wrong side (or wrong part number). Can anyone confirm that this hinge is on the wrong side of the plane? carusoam Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 Hmmmmm. Past Comanche owner with a tech question about an M20E flap hinge…. There is only one person I can invite to this conversation…. Let’s see if @M20Docis around… Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
Guest Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 Something is definitely out of alignment between the two halves of the hinge. I have to look in the parts manuals to see if there is a difference between the left and right hinges. Clarence Quote
Guest Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 It appears that most of the parts are the same left versus right, the fairing being the exception. They are different from side to side. Clarence Quote
67 m20F chump Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 I have one that lines up like that too on my 67’ F. Just a data point. Quote

Clarence Thanks, I was supposed to get the maintenance manuals in the purchase but I apparently don’t have them. This side has a heavy wing and was checking the flap adjustments. Something is definitely off and the bolt is bent slightly. I ordered a couple new bolts but I need to figure this out. Quote

How long has it been like that on your plane? My plane was painted in late 2018 and it's obvious that it's been out of alignment since then. Are you concerned about that bolt breaking or an un-commanded roll if it slips past the bolt? Quote

I wasn’t until you mentioned it. No I’m not worried. It’s the up limit so I don’t think it gets much stress. Edited May 3, 2022 by 67 m20F chump Quote
