Nukemzzz Posted February 28, 2022 Report Posted February 28, 2022 After 2years of work fixing the plane and trying to get my medical…like a month ago I got my medical and two weeks ago the plane came out of annual. And I’ve now finally soloed. It can be done in your own Mooney. Is it harder? A little. I flew a 172 a few hours as well and it was a bit more rugged and easier to fly. But it can be done in a Mooney. The hardest part for me is getting it slowed down and keeping it slowed down on final, and keeping it stable on the ground roll. Also, the brakes are terrible. Not sure if that’s just mine or not lol I really couldn’t have done it without some of you on this forum. Thank you so much for your help these last two years. Now I just need to put a bow on this and finish the PPL. Is almost spring! The video below documents my solo and my strangely problematic afternoon solo joy ride. 11
Utah20Gflyer Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 Congratulations! That's great! Mooney brakes are just fine if in good condition and properly bled, maybe would be a good idea to get them checked out, preferably by someone with plenty of Mooney experience, there is a learning curve to getting the brakes properly bled. 1
carusoam Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 Note… Talking to yourself out loud…. Has a name… Verbal Mediation…. It helps do what you want to do…. Not what a brain distraction wants to have you do…. When you are doing something different than what you are saying… it feels uncomfortable… If you say one thing, and the body isn’t getting it done… a different discomfort follows… Works great at keeping distractions at bay… Nice work… Tell your passengers (When you get to that level) you use Verbal Mediation for their comfort! PP thoughts only, not a cog therapist… Best regards, -a- 1
carusoam Posted March 1, 2022 Report Posted March 1, 2022 Let’s invite @Jason walimaa to stop by… Jason was interested in knowing about learning to fly in a Mooney… Best regards, -a- 1
mike_elliott Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Today, Reece soloed in his 2009 Acclaim type S. This is the first time I have worked with a student pilot in my years of instructing, Reece is exceptional in his abilities and will make a great next gen Mooney pilot and owner. Well done Reece! If your personal standards are high enough, you can train in a Mooney 3
Hank Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Great job, Reece! About time, Mike! Quite an accomplishment for both of you. 1

Elliot For the times when people ask… It helps to have both…. the right Mooney, and the matching instructor! Great job! Keep up the good work. And….. Go Mike E.! Best regards, -a-
