FAA AD 2022-04-04: Reciprocating Engine Oil System - Are our Ovations with IO-550-G affected?

Hello Mooniacs,

Just received this FAA AD, which also applies to IO-550-G/B engines 2022-04-04.pdfwith a specific oil-filter adapter installed:

"This AD applies to the reciprocating engine models identified in paragraphs (c)(1) and (2) of this AD with an F&M Enterprises, Inc. (F&M) or Stratus Tool Technologies, LLC (Stratus) oil filter adapter installed per Supplemental Type Certificate SE8409SW, SE09356SC, or SE10348SC."

I wonder whether the "stock" Ovations came with the adapters mentioned in the AD!?

Best,

Matthias

I didn’t see a 550 series engine listed.  I’ve also only seen 550 in Mooney airframes with Continental supplied oil filter adapters.

For @MatthiasArnold, I don't believe this adapter ever came with a stock IO550G engine...or even the "B" series for that matter; despite the two models being called out on pages 12 and 55 of that AD.

It must have been early and I missed the 550’s in the model list, had to read it again,  but non the less, the oil filter in question can’t be installed on a 550-G series engine.

Based on the flying mag article, I do not believe TSIO360-MB/SBs in the 252s are affected either. The IPC doesn't help much as it just says oil filter assembly. If someone knows, would appreciate any tips.

The adapter in question screws into the oil pump body and looks like this.  Not something you’ll find on a Mooney.

Perfect - thanks @M20Doc. On a slight tangent, the oil screen which screws in to the accessory case does use a crush gasket and then safety wired.

It sure does. MS35769-21 gasket.
