GeneralT001 Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Hi, The fresh air vent down by the pilots knee leaks air badly and I would like to fix it. Is there any info on how to go about this repair...I'm guessing its fairly simple and have searched the forums with out any luck...if someone could steer me in the right direction Quote
carusoam Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 Eyeball vents are easy to clean, lubricate, and or replace… They are easy to find… Seem to last forever… Best regards, -a- Quote
KB4 Posted February 8, 2022 Report Posted February 8, 2022 4 screws hold the flange, remove those and that eyeball assembly comes right out. 1 Quote

Great question… There is probably a right answer for this… found in the service manual…. But, I most likely used WD40 as the cleaner…a version of Tri-flo for lubrication…. Good for washing out aluminum dust left from wear…. As far as aroma goes… I couldn’t tell. Age + olfactory senses…. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
PT20J Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 The only way I have found to fix sticky wemac vents is to take them apart and thoroughly clean them. If you spray them from the outside with silicone, it just loosens the eyeball but doesn’t do much to loosen the butterfly mechanism so when you try to adjust them all that happens is that the eyeball spins around without changing the airflow. It’s possible spraying them with brake cleaner might wash the gunk out — I haven’t tried that, On my M20J, they are attached to the inside of the NACA scoops with sealant and then covered with the carpeted side panel and then everything is held in place with the trim ring. So, to get them out, I had to remove the trim ring and then the carpeted panel. Once out, there is a metal strip on the back that can be pulled out with long nose pliers and then the parts can be removed and cleaned and lubricated with a little silicone spray. Be sure to replace the sealant. I used regular hardware store duct sealant. Skip 1 1 Quote

This is the only reference to the Wemac valves that I can find in the service manual...and surprisingly no mention of interior item lubrication in the lubrication and service chart in the manual. Service manual interior limited to flight controls and doors/seals recommendations. Thanks for the the suggestions @carusoam and @PT20J 1 Quote

Thanks for the the suggestions @carusoam and @PT20J I don’t think they are intended to be lubed and any lube that leaves an oily residue is just going to gunk them up eventually. Quote
