It is, just not in the US. EASA has a "VLA" certification, and I can't think of one plane in that category that doesn't come with a 912. Pretty much all newish basic trainers over here are VLA planes. They are bulletproof, and fare much better in the high temps we're having in the summer than the air-cooled Lycomings in the 152s.

Makes sense to me!

I can imagine a twin Comanche like airplane too, powered by a pair of 915's.  It would be a really nice airplane.

Torque is everything…

Marketing sells the hp number… tradition… easy comparisons…

Torque bands can be pretty narrow, and start pretty far away from idle speed….

Electric motors are exciting…

Full torque starting at zero rpm…

No hint of what the driver next to you has in mind… or what he is doing, until it already happened… no loud revs….

A 92 Vette with an automatic can get 30+mpg loping around in top gear… (4th)

That number improves as a standard trans in sixth gear….

Operating a Vette way over square is funny, but not very fun….  :)

Drop back to 2nd, punch it… let the torque bands fly!  :)

Liquid cooled engines….

My IO550 is very much a liquid cooled engine…. Using oil as the cooling medium… radiator mounted to the engine itself…

Lots of effort goes into the plumbing…. When they get it wrong… as many IO550s did early in the 90s…. All the oil gets vented overboard…  (cracked oil coolers)

If we wanted to add cylinder head cooling to the liquid mix….  Hmmmmmm…. That would be the Bravo’s wet head…

Lots of successful plumbing of liquid cooling around here… much more simple than done in other planes….with their radiator mounted somewhere in the belly… and tens of feet of hoses and fittings there and back…

PP thoughts only…

Best regards,
