Kind of a random question but has anyone either made one or know anyone or any company that does a thing like this?  Like chalk on a farm or field with a message you can see from the air?  Has anyone here done such a thing?

I've only seen a coupl'a youtube vids where people made a 'will you marry me' sign on a farm somewhere.  from what I recall it took a lot more work to make it visible than they thought it would.

Wait…

Tell us what you have in mind…

And I’ll find our Mooney aviation field artist…

I know he is here somewhere…

There is a whole thread discussing letter height and other details…

The important part is she said yes…

Yes, you are on the right track ;)

I think my first step is how to go about acquiring a field.  Maybe I just start knocking on farmhouse doors?  Lol.   Any kind of tips or information would be helpful I'm sure

Fly around and look for a suitable field to fly her past. Mark it's location on your phone. Then drive around and try to find it on the ground, then look for the owner.

Good luck (twice!).

I am in a fairly rural area so there are plenty of fields.   Just have to start asking around and talking to owners I suppose.   Fortunately since there are so many some can say no and I still have options.

A lot will depend not only on the field owner, but also on how long you have to prepare, what season it is, and how long the message has to be visible for.

Start with thinking mowing/harvesting, fertilizer (or weedkiller :o) whitewash/paint, pinned down banners or reels of paper pinned down to make letters.

With harvest season not so far away for some crops, you might be able to encourage a farmer to write your message with his combine/mower/tractor, but expect him to want to finish the rest of the field the next day. Alternatively, if you have scant regards for the landowner, then weedkiller and a few weeks can do something like this

So I managed to pull it off.  There are some drone videos above with some pictures from the cockpit I can put up later.  It took a lot of calling around but a good pilot friend with a grass runway and some nice folks that worked for the local parks and rec who line the baseball fields helped me out to create this magical moment.
