I have the AeroLEDs and they are substantially brighter than the product Whelen was offering at the time.  Since then I believe both companies have moved to newer models.  I am very happy with the AeroLEDs.  I put in the regular version and not even the high output version - one set each of landing and taxi lights.  I light the place up like a Boeing coming in to land and have very good visibility on the ground.

Correct, Whelen launched the G3 last summer at Oshkosh. Prior to the G3, the Pro was Whelen's top of the line landing light but the G3 outperforms that for a much more attractive price.

We’ve done a lot of upgrades since purchasing our Ovation. This is one of the one’s I am 100% sure I made the correct decision on. We removed an older set of LEDs to put these in, and we never looked back (Aero-LEDs I believe). They light up the runway as well as the Falcon I fly for work. Gallagher is an ace to work with. Already have my deposit in for the recognition lights. Can’t wait to throw the old ones in the trash!!image.jpeg.c545f245f752a379f42c262413ff2b4f.jpeg

Thank you are these comparisons vs the Aero Lites 3200 lumens or the 5100's?

I am not sure what version lamp I had for testing. Whelen gave me several different lights to play with. Here are some photos of the G3s on other aircraft and you can expect similar results.

Well the new Aero Lites are half the price and they seem to have similar specs. They don't have an STC but... According to Avweb no PMA or STC is needed. Correct?  https://www.avweb.com/insider/how-the-faa-works-against-safety/

"All of the manufacturers of these products have approached the FAA for some kind of approval, even though it’s not clear that any is needed. The FARs are vague on the subject, requiring only that bulbs have enough light for night operations and not present a fire hazard. That’s it. The venerable GE 4509 bulb-the gold standard for landing lights-carries no TSO or PMA of any kind. It’s just a bulb."

One difference I can see…

Mr. Gallagher is around here several times a week…

Has informed many MSers about which lights they want to have on the various points of their aircraft…

and… When an Led light was not available for the Mooney… he went through the effort to get one through the Whelen system…

The only thing I can’t figure out… why his Mooney still has the old V-tail on it… I thought those went out of style when the incandescent bulbs went away….  :)

Who else sets up various lights side by side and takes pics and shares them right on MS…. And hangs out to answer questions about the camera and how the pics were taken…

Soooo…. Where do I find that Aero LED guy if I have a technical lighting question…?  Or do I just believe what they publish?

How do I know the test is really any good…. Looks like drone pics looking down… my eyes are typically not drone mounted… I may see something completely different….

If all you need is a light bulb… take your pic.

If you want to know all about lighting for your plane…. And why your annunciator panel dims when it shouldn’t… and you want to have a partner that can go back to the engineers with tech questions…

Go Gallagher Aviation / WAT!

:)

Best regards,

The AeroLites do not have similar specifications but I know that is what you want to do. Good luck!

Not at all. I am just trying to do my homework and learn about the differences to make an educated decision.
Since the Aero Lites are half the price of the Whelen and I haven't seen a specs comparison yet I think it is fair to ask no?
If you have it pls share of course.
