PilotDerek Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Vintage Mooney owners, do you have a cowl plug and if so where did you get it. I had ordered one from aircraft spuce and recieved a call today saying that the company doesn't make one for my Mooney. (it would have been nice to know that nearly three weeks ago when I ordered it). Just wondering if you just made your own or know who sells them. Quote
Hank Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Don't have one, but I've seen cut-to-fit models at Sporty's and Spruce. Quote
KSMooniac Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 http://www.aircraftcovers.com/index.php?cPath=1_5_430_433&tplDir=fallback I have cowl plugs and a cover from them for my J and have been very happy. Quote
kortopates Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 +1 for Bruce's covers and cowl plugs Quote
Steve65E-NC Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 You can see plugs and other vermin covers that I designed and created on my Gallery under bird guards. I used closed cell polyetheylene foam. Note retainer pairs on top and bottom. I use natural spring of material to retain. Finger hole allows depress of foam downward with rotate out at top. Dayglo orange tinted paint stirrers serve both as part of top retainer and as cockpit visible warning. I used wax coated string to bind/sew components together. Made them over four years ago and they still work fine. Quote
Immelman Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Another vote for a set from Bruce. I have the lasar cowl closure on my '66 E, and took photos with a ruler across the openings, sent them to Bruce, and they made a set of plugs that fit perfectly. They are 4 yrs old now and still in great shape. Quote
orangemtl Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Bought mine on Ebay. Seriously. They fit the Acclaim openings perfectly. Bought a Remove Before Flight cover for the pitot static, as well. If I knew how to download pictures from my phone, I would. Maybe i'll just take a photo w/my computer and post it. Quote
jetdriven Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 easiest is to either open iphoto with your iphone plugged in, or just email the photo to yourself. Quote
DrBill Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 My set were purchased from Aircraft Spruce and they fit pretty good in my 65 "E". Not much you can do around the generator pulley. The two I got are mirrors (left/right). The right (pilot) fits good, the left is good except around the gen pulley. But it does keep the critters out. I'm making a tailcone cover from ripstop nylon myself. I'll post the drawings when I get it done and fitted. Dr Bill Quote
triple8s Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 I made mine from 2 inch foam insulation, even put a little cord on them to connect them together, just one thing........they're pink :-/ Quote
