flap release tab connection to cable broke - '68C with hydraulic flaps

After taking off today, I lifted the flap release tab on my '68C (hydraulic flaps) and something snapped, but the flaps came up.  The cable that attaches to the tab is now detatched, and the flaps no longer can be held down. It is a very tight fit to access behind that tab but it appears the cable mechanism has snapped - there appears to be a short length of thin wire hanging off the back of the tab, and then the heavy cable end that is detached.   Any guidance on steps needed to fix this?  It looks like a total pain because of tight access. Below is what I can glean from the parts manual about the system.  The maintenance manual is of no help.

If I recall, it is just a standard Bowden Cable that attaches at both ends with wire clamps. If the wire broke, pull the wire out, measure its thickness and buy the same size piano wire from McMaster Carr or McFarlain and thread the new wire through the conduit. You might want to use the old wire to work oil into the conduit before inserting the new wire. Coat the new wire with oil before inserting it.
