robert7467 Posted June 17, 2020 Report Posted June 17, 2020 Anyone have any suggestions for this? I see the bracket is riveted. I would have taken it out and either weled it or cut out an overlay of it, but since its riveted, can't really do that! Option 1: JB weld and hope for the best. Option 2: try to drill out rivets and fix the bracket and use rivnuts or sheet metal screws. Option 3: ? Option 4: ? It never ends! After looking at it again, I can always drive an oversized sheet metal screw and washer it up. Any suggestions welcomed! Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 17, 2020 Report Posted June 17, 2020 Its time for a one piece windshield! Quote
smwash02 Posted June 17, 2020 Report Posted June 17, 2020 It's not structural. I'd drill them out, replace the bracket, use some aluminum pop rivets, and put a nice coat of epoxy paint over them to match the look. 1 Quote

One is merely a one piece replacement for what you have, the other is the 201 style and restricts access like you saw. Quote

Gotcha, I guess no need for a 1 piece, I just need to figure out this compass issue. Quote

MZooma Posted June 18, 2020 Report Posted June 18, 2020 Might be an opportunity to remove the compass from that field of view if you have room in your panel. Quote
47U Posted June 18, 2020 Report Posted June 18, 2020 The center windscreen support isn’t that difficult to remove. You’ll need to coord with your A&P though, since it’s not a side window. If you replace any hardware, use brass/non-ferrous. You might find the hardware was installed with sealant, or some clear RTV. One of the salvage yards likely has the compass mount. If you’re out west (or even if you’re not), Paul Loewen sold me a cabin door hinge very reasonably priced. He shipped it the same day I called him. https://www.loewensmooneysalvage.com/contact Phone: (707) 263-0472 Cell: (707) 272-8638 paulloewen98@gmail.com Mail: 400 Lakeview Road Lakeport, CA. 95453 Once it’s back together, my compass had a short (half inch?) piece of vacuum hose wedged between the compass housing and the center windscreen support to keep it from vibrating. It looks like yours suffered a fatigue crack and broke, just guessing. tom 1 Quote
