brndiar Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Hi. Need an advice. Trying to fix a problem. My EGT shows only last 75 F from the Peek. The Engine is fresh after TBO. The same numbers were before engine overhaul. Suppose the Probe has not been replaced. Any suggestions? thanks, lg,m Edited May 18, 2020 by brndiar Quote
Janat83 Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Check this link for troubleshootinghttps://alcorinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/EGT-Trouble-Shooting-Guide-Rev-2011.pdf ALCOR EGT SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE Looks like you need to readjust potentiometer, EGT readout value is relative only and doesn't have any meaning. Janat83 Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 This is the Potentiometer hole, use screwdriver to re-adjust it Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 The older gauges have the pot on the back. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 Let’s get a good look at this one... Oh... now I see it. You have an Alcor... These devices are so sensitive... they are powered by the micro-volts generated by the thermo-couple sensor.... not connected to any power at all... Since it may have gotten disconnected during the engine R&R.... it may be wise to check the connections at the back of the instrument... and follow them all the way to the sensor in the exhaust tube... looking for any screwed on wire extensions... Wait a minute... you already said it has always been like this.... Clean all connections... then see how well it is working... See if the EGT sensor is actually sitting in the hole properly... pull the sensor and look to see if it is whole or missing some part Near the tip... Doing this homework first will keep things from changing over time... recalibrating the instrument’s needle first... may not solve the problem that may be there... Sometimes the sensors fail. They are in an extremely tough environment... Sensors are pretty cheap for that too... See what one costs from AS... you might decide putting in a new sensor is on par with trouble shooting an old one... There is some really fine bearing that the needle swings on... if it is dirty and causing any resistance... there isn’t much force generated by micro-volts... but that is more of an instrument issue... Don’t waste any too much money on the EGT... that money is best spent on an engine monitor.... How is that for a bunch of ideas...? The Alcor site has a manual for your gauge... it describes the calibration process... and the asterisk that the newer gauges get... Looks like yours didn’t get the asterisk, so pick one of the lines to the right, and assume there is one there... See if Alan has a solution for the inop sticker in the other pic.... ? PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
